Hi everyone. Tired from long day; just saw LOTL blog and not sure I can watch the cam. :-(
Off to check out previous posts.
Thanks Alan will be keeping my eye on the Italy game but watching Andy Murray at the moment and of course ospreys.
Margobird
Murray has just won his game in straight sets..... he bowed again on leaving the court, although I thought it was in a self concious way. It looks warm and sunny there in London: warm here but not hot, and the sun keeps disappearing; a bit windy, too, like it is at LG.
Sorry to hear that Lady P has an ear infection, Alan - no fun at all.
Saw a fascinating series on TV about Maps, through history. Was very taken with one shown of "the 1st Map of America" where it was shown named actually as America, (after Amerigo Vespucci, as we learned at school), and they had to make it into an elongated continent because they had no idea of the real shape of the country - they had only managed to map the coastline & a few miles inland! You can see this rather beautiful map if you Google "1st Map of America" and look at the map shown on the first page of the links, at the top RH side of the page: its called the "Martin Waldzeemer's 1507 Map of the World" but I won't put it on here in case of copyright.
Linda i thought they were wonderful scenes from Wimbledon. How tiny the Queen looked up against Andy Murray. Now getting ready to watch the match that so far has been played over 3 days.
I will have a look at that map sounds really interesting.
Alan so sorry meant to say I hope Lady P recovers soon, ear infections are not good.
Morning all:
OG: Where are your missionaries going? Diane: Very cute little critters!
Lindybird: I daren't visit blogs before I start chores and errancds, but here I am again. Sigh. We bought the "media cabinet" so we wouldn't have miles of wires and multiple stands/tables to fuss with - everything in one place. Plan to raise topic of flat-screen telly this weekend but must let OH get over wall contractors, etc. Assume Her Majesty still carrying a little matching handbag? Wonder what she has in there? Wonder also if Bill Clinton will attend; he's been in S.A. watching the World Cup. Thanks for Andy Murray news. LOVE old maps and have been on the Google historic maps layer several times. In the early days of this country, the "west" extended only as far as the Mississippi, then they suddenly thought, 'Wait a minute....." :-) . If anyone's looking for something to read, Lewis & Clark's original diaries are wonderful; they did an amazing job of documenting nature on their trek across the continent, plus details of their encounters with Indians. Also, Stephen Ambrose's book, Undaunted Courage, tells of their trials and tribulations and a great adventure read.
Alan: Ear infections can be horrible; hope Lady P's not getting the dizziness/nausea that often goes with them. Very disconcerting.
Hallo to everyone else I may have missed. Take care all. I'm going to run out for a bit then come back and keep an eye on Trucker Steve as he heads to Denver (plus ospreys and tennis and footie news!)
World champions Italy are out of the World Cup beaten 3 - 2 by Slovakia and finishing bottom of their group. It was a great match with an exciting finish.
Also watched a bit of Andy Murrays match. He won comfortably but not at his best.
to all foodies out there... anything blueberry is just wonderful, in fact bilberries ( as I always knew them are great on their own.
Dillon and my purse got the all clear from the vet today.
Watched the end of the epic match, after all that what a shame they couldn't both go through.
Are blueberries and bilberries the same thing? You do learn a lot on here, don't you?
Glad your purse can now recover, as well as Dillon, dibnlib. (friend of mine reckons most of her vet's foreign holidays have been paid for by her two dogs and their various ailments, she quivers now when I say the word 'Vet'.
Watched the end of the epic Tennis match - the fans didn't seem to want it to ever end!!
Annette: there have always been rumours that the Queen keeps nothing in her handbag except a handkerchief - she certainly doesn't carry money, and I don't think she needs a comb as her hair is always well sprayed to stay still. Oh yes, and of course it always matches the outfit, though I can't understand why she often wears black shoes with just about everything, unless its to save on buying too many pairs! Will look up those map refs. you mentioned, I love old maps. (ps AQ & Wattle: Can't see Australia on the map now I've printed out myself a copy of it - don't think they found it yet!)
DIANE luckily Dillon is a good swimmer, coz if he jumps out of the canoe, he will be expected to doggy paddle his way back to terra firma. We have been investigating the price of a lightweight canadian canoe (would have to be lightweight as I am a bit of a wimp and don't think I could help OH get a standard canoe onto car roofbars) anyway we will have to see Dillons reaction before we decide to splash out. Remember Harvey(GR no1 ) when we first took him on a motor boat - sheer terror for the first minute or so then he loved every bit of it.
MARGOBIRD also torn between osp nests and Wimbledon . Finally got to see the end of the mammoth match. Rather wished they could just have left the court in their own time instead of being told to pose in front of the score llne. I know it is all part and parcel of playing in the grand slams, but they had already given their all in that amazing match and the posing turned it into a bit of a pantomime. Not quite sure when I am going to finish my library book, which I cannot extend as there is a queue waiting for it. It is the newly published Peter James
