  • Afternoon all,

Djoans : Thanks for the goldfinch pic. I have a pair which come to feed nearly every day and also like to drink at the birdbath. Yesterday both birds were at the birdbath together but I was too slow to get a pic.

Lindybird : Another lovely poppy pic.

GeorgeG : Nice pic of the gull. He's a big lad compared to the pigeon in the foreground.

Everyone else thanks for the chat etc.

This morning we have been to the Van Hage garden centre where I bought some compost and begonias. Will plant them  in baskets when the footie is not on.

Just cant watch the LOTL webcam. Too upsetting.

Weather has been cloudy but sun coming out now. Still not that warm. Temp 13.8c

  • hope you liike the photo which was taken by the son of an old work colleague of OH. The family now live on the island of Jura. what a wonderful upbringing for them, the drawback is that Dad is now a retired RAF officer working in Germany - it takes him 34 hours to get home using car and ferries. His wife calls this "wot u lookin at"

  • Afternoon all Just accessed this thread after looking at the LG nest and what's been happening today.  Also looked several times at the LotL webcam but find it very distressing.  It's almost worse when Lady is raising her head and trying to get up.

Dibnlib Have you been round the north coast before?  We used to holiday in Scourie and becamee friendly with a couple who live in Melness, near Tongue, amid spectacular scenery.  Been to Smoo cave a couple of times - the climb back up was quite a test of my asthmatic breathing!  Hope you get good weather.

I bought a feeding station ad a patio base for it from the RSPB catalogue - had fun putting it together and getting it set up in the garden.  It just went in place yesterday and is already being visited - we've been feeding the birds anyway, so this is an extra 'restaurant'.  The first visitor I saw was a juvenile great tit and the goldfinches are visiting the niger feeder. Looking forward to other birds coming along (maybe the bullfinches who visited the patio the other day.

  • Morning/afternoon all: Happy Father's Day to all Dads on the blog.

Spent a lot of time at the LOTL site, reading the blogs, etc. So sad. Even my OH, who's not a big bird person, came down the hall to ask how things were going with "the bird."

Very late here - about10 a.m. and still in bed - unheard of!!  Plan to spend day lolling on chair in garden, snoozing and reading (can't do that during the week with contractors digging holes around me), but will stop in kitchen on the way out for eats.  Which reminds me, didn't go to Farmer's Market yesterday due to LA visit, so may have to pop over to the local one for peaches, blueberries, etc.  Do I have to take a shower before I go?  No; will wipe face, brush teeth and wear dark glasses!  Of course, that means I'll run into all kinds of people I know. Hmm.

OG: Between you and me, I met my friend and her partner about 30 years ago and I thought it wasn't a good match then, but what do I know!  :-)

Djoan: Lovely pix and hope you get more visits from these pretty little birds.

Lindybird: What is that prickly looking flower beside your famous poppies (more purple/pink I see!)

dibnlib: Good for Dillon - and his own vacation to come!  Great shot of deer!!

George: Great gull shot - they are opportunists and never miss a chance to grab a bite. Is that a pigeon in the bottom left-hand corner of that shot? Doesn't look like it's ready to take on the gull!  Aha! Thanks Alan for answering that one. Sounds like a nice day, what with garden centers and footie.

patriciat: Was it you who was having problems with a new feeder? If so, sounds like you got it sorted out.

Hallo to everyone else. Take care.

  • Just found this clip of the Puffin chick at Sumburgh Head on Shetland:

  • OG - hope while you were over near G'house of Fleet you looked into Cream of Galloway at Rainton!!!!!!!!!!!

You mentioned on last week's chat page that you had had an email advising you that you were near your limit of monthly Broadband allowance - I also had one, but this year I have turned my PC off when not using it, so I don't see how I can be near my limit, and am wondering if it is a ploy to get us to upgrade!!

On that topic - does anyone of the more PC minded know if it is possible to check on how many megabites one is using?

Like everyone else on these pages, am really sad at what is happening at L of L, but unfortunately nature is sad at times - at least we will know what happened to her, and will not be left wondering. Hopefully the Laird will continue to feed the chicks, and it is not that far short of their being able to feed themselves. And the Lady will have left a fantastic heritage.

  • PATRICIAT   we have been up to the north coast, but it was a fair few years ago. We went over to Lochinver and drove north from there. Spectacular scenery and wonderful deserted beaches. We have booked a  night at Talmine, which is close to Tongue.    Lady/Marge has just been lifting her head and looking round and I keep hoping for the impossible!!!!

  • Lovely Puffin clip, Alan.    Little one looked as if it was sneezing!  very cute.

Had a pleasant day, with a long walk this morning thru the countryside near us, then a salad lunch with fruit salad to follow, sitting in the garden - hooray!   its summer at last.   Then Eldest Son came to share a bacon omelette with us tonight as its Father's Day. (he's gone to work now as on a night shift where he does IT support)  Youngest Son just rang as well, the babe is getting lots of exercise as Mum to Be is swimming twice a week.

Would have been a wonderful day all round if not for the sad news from LotL: but that unfortunately, is life.

  • Hi all, mammoth catch up session as I have not been able to read since last Saturday. First thing I saw was a mention of LotL so of course I had to look there. How sad, although good that she is here and we know, better than her just not turning up one year. Laird was feeding on the nest, but himself first then one of the chicks had some, but now I can't get the cam at all. Too distressing to watch, as some say, but I have to look now and then to check, even though it all ends in floods of tears.

Thanks for the puffin vid Alan, how sweet, nearly as cute as the groundhog! Admired your gull george g, very bold. Thanks to all for great pics of birds and flowers.

Yesterday we had our choir concert in the local church (lovely sound, even if something goes a little awry!) We sang Howard Goodall's Eternal Light, very singable (he wrote the music for the Vicar of Dibley) and today an orchestral study day in Alston of Nielsen's 3rd symphony, wonderful. Last weekend was two days of music too, so what with extra hours at work I haven't been around much except to watch the LG nest and make a few comments.

We don't have fathers or children, so no Father's Day for this house. I'll say best wishes to all the fathers on here instead.

  • ISS watchers - I have finally remembered while online to check the times for the ISS now it's north enough again to see.  None of the times shown is earlier than 11pm, I guess because it's not really dark at this time of year so you won't see it very well at a sensible hour. However that's far too late for me! Maybe I will try to see it on an earlier pass, so if I just take 90 minutes off I might be lucky!  I'm sure it's not exactly 90 minutes though, so I could be hanging about looking when I've already missed it, hmmm.
