Morning everyone and welcome to a new week! Last week's Weekly Chat ended with some interesting entries and very interesting links (wonderful pix of swan giving cygnets a ride, courtesy of Lindybird, and, thanks very much Alan; another perspective on those oil-covered pelicans - good news too!). OG: Not rushing and dashing; kids are here and headed to bed early for ultra-early departure. Margobird: Thanks for update on Hope and Lily.
Gather USA/England draw was result of bungle by England goalkeeper?
Yes, OG, I had forgotten how short the Summer can be in countries north of us. I hope this posts OK, I heard fish incoming noises from the nest so had to check!!
Despite the urgings of the parents the Derby peregrines seem unwilling to take the plunge. They appear to be saying "you go first".
jsb / Alan / OG, I am so glad you have said you are not impressesd by Spring Watch, I thought I was the only one. I think they have forgotten the point of the programme, and not about them and their ego's.
Sandy, I can't say I blame those peregrines. It must be so frightening for a first flight from that height even for a bird.

I watched the first week and then started recording it to watch while I eat my lunch. I am afraid I feel the same way it does seem to have lost it's point. Won't be watching anymore but will look at the webcams which are very good and where it gives a commentary on what is actually happening. Such a shame as I so used to enjoy it.

I have just read David's mini update and OG, I noted that your invitation to join us on here has been refused, as she is happy to stay reading the Main page. That is quite a few, who have told people about these pages now, but they seem to prefer the Main Diary Page
Just had a thought, what would it be like if all 339 members came on here. We would never catch up !!
One of them got very close a little while ago:
... but now a thunderstorm has reached Derby so I hope that they delay for a bit.

I noticed too, Brenda, that she had decided to stick with the main blog - which I actually find very crowded, especially now David often puts comments there instead of starting a new post which would alert us that he has something to say!
I also wondered about overpopulating this chat thread! I enjoy being part of a caring circle of friends!! However, I wouldn't want it to appear to be a clique!!!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
OG : I agree that it would be a nightmare if all 339 members decided to blog at once. I have seen what happens on the US sites where the chat is slowed down or put into 2 streams when there are so many people on.

I am sure we couldn't be accused of that OG. Anyhow, we have made people aware of these pages and would always welcome them, but it is up to the individual. I remember that we were told that the Main Page was not for general chat. I don't usually read all the comments on the Main Page and just wait for the LG Blogs. I have just been reading and was surprised at some people's attitude.
