Weekly Chat (non-osprey) - Sunday 22nd May 2016

Such is the chaos the Ying Tong cyber attack has caused that I only just noticed there was no new Weekly Chat!  I don't know how much opportunity we'll get to post on this new thread but at least we can all curse the perpetrators en masse!

Happy New Week!

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • So we all survived then;-)

Good day here as 2 brilliant dry walks with Daisy who decided to dig up a hosta and came in with a mud caked nose looking so proud of herself.

Cleaned car as seem to be using OH new pressure washer more than him.

Also sorted all kitchen cupboards and moved all large containers not in use to shed. New fridge freezer on order taller than old one so stuff stored on top needs a new home.

So stuff in shed now will get a couple of months before eviction to charity.

Glorious sun now and weather looking good for a few days.

  • Evening all:  Hope all are well - haven't heard from AQ for a few days.

Alan: Fab photo of Super Blue Tit!!

Take care all. Have a good Tuesday.

  • Good Morning, All.  Sunny here, as it was yesterday - we even had a sit in the garden. Have planted out some geraniums in tubs, and surrounded them with grit in the hopes that if the soft soil isn't exposed, Bonnie won't dig them up again!

We've had the worst possible scenario here, as a baby rabbit has been appearing grazing on the lawn. There are a lot of rabbits in nearby woods - the farmer regularly goes out with his shotgun to keep the numbers down. Of course, this appearance has caused a certain dog to nearly burst through the double glazing! She also rushes outside, desperate to look for bunnies even if none are present. She has escaped under the hedge/wire netting about 5 times over the weekend :-(  I feared for my OHs blood pressure......   He has had to work hard to fortify the fencing and we've even discussed having her attached to a chain when outside.

  • Wendy - Well done on the cupboard tidying - it's a nice feeling when you get them done!  Sorry Daisy has been helping with the gardening :-(

AQ - Hope you're OK, and just too busy to post. I know a lot of us just stayed away whilst there was disruption on here.

Margo - Still thinking of you, and hope you had nice enough weather over the weekend to sit out for a while.

  • Lindy Ido feel for you and OH and before we even thought Daisy might live here we invested heavily in a fence to stop rabbits coming in. Shooting didn't work and even a couple of sessions of "M" introduced by landowner we think didn't work. The boards at the bottom were dug into the ground and in 5 years we haven't had an intruder. She has 2 areas she digs out with permission under spreading conifers where the soil is soft and when hot she uses them for shade and the soil to cool down. Bonus for the many Sparrows breeding in my roof they get a dust bath next to the water bath. When she dug up the wrong bed just a word was enough for it to stop. EBT s are know for their sensitivity and a raised voice is enough. Hence OH have a very calm life as we don't raise our voices in front of her.

She is off to kennels on Friday so that we can treat the lawn and oh yes maybe raise our voices!!! She loves it there as she seems to smile when she sees John the owner.

Once again I have a Tupperwear day but plan a walk up the hill behind the cottage to find fir cones to chase so much better than a ball in her eyes.

Part didn't arrive on Saturday but OH still went to garage to test drive that car I mentioned. He never rushes into anything major and was cautious about if and when but I feel it will be eventually as I caught him ordering material samples for a boot liner for Daisy :-)))

  • Its been a lovely morning, and I've been pottering around:  we are packing again and hoping to grab a few days in Wales from Thursday, as it looks like promising weather.

My Friend came around (she had blood tests to do etc. nearby) and had a coffee with me. Bonnie was pleased to see her and went bananas, then ran around the garden like a dervish! Now she is sleeping it off.  The farmer has been spraying his crops at the back of our house, and it was noisy for a short while, but we are very lucky and its not noisy here except for very distant hum of the M6 Motorway.

  • Hello everyone

It is good to be back again!

Not much to report, yesterday was a good gardening day, so we both got stuck in, back and front grass both cut plus other jobs. OH planted some begonias.

Sadly, his hearing is deteriorating quite badly despite hearing aids and he is so fed up with guessing what folk are saying. He is also bemoaning his lack of stamina, this is quite recent, he goes out to his garden with so many good intentions but after an hour or so just has to sit for a while. He still thinks that he can climb and prune trees but is beginning to realise that it is not a good idea. It is hard to watch him as he gets so angry with himself!! Sweary words are not infrequent....

  • Good afternoon everyone have been away for quite a while but have been keeping up with all that has been going on, holidays, wedding arrangements, ailments and the hatchings at LG.

The weather here has been quite changeable as yesterday was sunny but today is overcast with quite a cold wind. I now have a magpie family visiting the feeders but when they appear all the other birds take flight and I have come across some bird carcasses in the garden but they do frighten the pigeons.

My SiL sister has been quite ill and has been taken in to hospital twice for couple of days as she has been having breathing problems so we have to do her shopping and calling in every day to make sure she is OK.

I have a doctors appointment tomorrow and then on Thursday I have an appointment with the nurse who is monitoring the trial I am on. I have also arranged to go north at the beginning of July by train and I have already got my train tickets as by getting them early I have saved £15. and then my son will have to take me down to LG to see the ospreys.

Hope everyone keeps well and enjoys the holiday weekend.

  • Morning all: Seems we're all spending time lolling or working in our various gardens.  I'm off to LA on the train this morning to meet friend for lunch at Union Station, then back in time for dinner.

Heather: Sorry about your OH's hearing - that must be so frustrating for both of you.

Wendyb: What are EBTs?  Over here it means Electronic Benefit Transfer.

    AQ: Call home!  :-)

Margo: Hope all well at your end of the country.

Lindybird: Can't imagine keeping Bonnie away from Bunnies.

  • It's an English Bull Terrier...

I can't imagine your version of EBT smiling at you Annette !!
