Hi all. Just starting this 'coz going out to birthday dinner with OH tonight (Indian - his choice). Back to catch up with last week's final posts later, (which included a great photo from OG's trip).
Good morning Brenda, first thing I looked at this morning was the news about Hope. Hard to be optimistic but must be and just hope Lily will find her. It will be so tragic if she has died. Watching nature is so hard at times.
Margobird
original goldfinch it is sad about Hope and I am hoping that Lily has not given up on her. Have just said to Brenda watching nature is so sad at times.
Good morning Heron 77, hope you are feeling better now. I agree with you about baby starlings. We have a garden full of them and their antics really make me laugh. they are now as big as the parents and I would think quite able to feed themselves but they chase their parents around all the time for more food. Back to the days of filling the bird baths countless times every day as they do like to get in the bath and have a good old splash. Yesterday a neighbours cat got a baby bluetit which is so upsetting. I couldn't save him unfortunately and the parent kept coming back to the box to see if their chick was there. I think it had probably fallen out as the rest of the brood had already fledged.
Have a good day.
How upsetting about Lily & Hope - perhaps the search team will find her. We'll have to remain optimistic.
Someone said they'd had some baby sparrows; we have had at least 3 families of them, hard to say how many babies each, at least 2 I would say, but its hard to follow them all as we've had a lot of them feeding and begging on the patio, so a good year for the sparrows at last. I was worried as they used to be our most common bird in the garden and now there are so few.
ps: Lovely Meerkat, OG!
Good morning Lindybird we did indeed have a busy weekend. Hairspray was marvellous, we go to quite a lot of shows and thought this was one of the best. Michael Ball and Less Dennis were just wonderful in their parts. Having said that all the cast were good and it really was a "feel good" show with great music.
Yes Rhys did cry when he was being baptised. Made us laugh though he dropped his dummy in the font and then managed to get hold of the microphone. He was quite good though because it was quite a long service, just about an hour.
You are right about the humming birds being jammed in the nest. At least they both look healthy this time.
Dibnlib - Hope you see this before you set out (I think it's today you go). I hope the trip with your Mum works out really well and that you all enjoy the concert. Safe travel, too. Thinking of you.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Morning all ... cloudy and cool here today.
Have spent a pleasant half hour with a cuppa watching the antics of the sparrow families in the garden ... we certainly have no shortage of them round here ... very comical.
OG - fabulous photo of the meerkat ... and the goose yesterday was brilliant.
Annette - I hope you have luck saving your tree ... I always feel sad when a mature tree dies or has to be felled.
Heron - love your weird pronunciations of place names. There are two strange names not too far from here ... 'Pity Me' and 'No Place' ...both in County Durham. It must confuse people who ask where you live and you reply "No Place" !
The Bear Centre update this morning made such sad reading.
Margobird - glad the christening went off well ... I love it when babies do funny things during the ceremony!
Off to check the stills camera now.
Take care all

Afternoon all,
OG : Loved your pic of the meerkat. My son in law thinks they are brilliant. Also the pic of the goose was great.
Margobird : Glad you enjoyed Hairspray and the christening went well.
Very sad about Lily and Hope. There may still be a positive outcome.
I have been on a shopping mission this morning, stocking up on stuff after the holiday. Plan to do a bit of gardening this afternoon when the Thunderdog has had his walk. Weather is much cooler today but still quite sunny. Temp 15.8c.
Another photo from the bird tabel in Wales. This time a greenfinch:
Lovely pic of the greenfinch Alan. Agree about the weather it must be about 8 or 9 degrees cooler than yesterday, a bit more manageable for me.
What a cracking Greenfinch, Alan. He's lovely. Cheers us up.
Here is someone we met yesterday on our walk:
---she was not impressed by Dog!
