Hi all. Just starting this 'coz going out to birthday dinner with OH tonight (Indian - his choice). Back to catch up with last week's final posts later, (which included a great photo from OG's trip).
Annette - Do you have time for any more wildlife? Yeah, they say if you want something done ask a busy person. Hope your tooth is repaired for good. I am overdue to ring dreaded dentist for checkup, but I never think of it in surgery hours or I am too busy. (I can't ring now, I'm busy !!!!)
Diane - Thank you very much for the rain. We gratefully received 4.0 mm on Sunday and an amazing, wonderful, soaking 31.4 mm last night.
Annette: I'm so glad that your dentist appointment went well. Good for you for volunteering at the Wildlife Rescue Center. I hope you don't find it to be too distressing. I have a good friend who does a lot of volunteering at the animal shelter, and she does tend to get depressed over some of the trauma she sees, but the work is very rewarding for her.
re: Oil gusher (refuse to call it a spill anymore). I've been watching the webcam this evening. BP has had a large robot down there at the site of the gusher, and it has been moving stuff around. They've been showing the site from different perspectives. Very interesting, but very disturbing. I've read articles on the pelicans. Someone from a conservation group said the entire population may be wiped out, and they will have to be slowly reintroduced to the area in the future. I also read that there are options for immediately and permanently sealing the gusher, but the parties involved have been reluctant to implement these radical meaasures because they want to preserve the site for future drilling (profits). All of the responsible parties should go to prison, in my opinion.
Off to clean my enclosed porch. Everyone have a good Wednesday.
Yay, AQ. You got rain!!! Excellent.
Hi AQ: I hope tooth is fixed too. No need for Tylenol this evening. Hurray!
Diane: Thanks so much for links to NM and AZ cams. Dentist works in a very modestly appointed office and charged very modest amount. Have a friend whose dentist has videocam over the chair so patients can watch movies, etc., etc., in very stylish surroundings; consequently, his fees reflect the surroundings. But our guy is old school. Haven't signed up for bird rescue place yet (they typically deal with small animals and birds); will see how the time goes. Re the gusher, if what the other week's 60 Minutes program indicated, there was a series of screw ups that, had they been handled properly, could well have avoided this calamity. Funny how the deaths of those workers has been almost forgotten. Oh? We're sending people to gaol? Can I add some names to the list?
Off to bed now. Take care all and hope cam gets fixed early tomorrow.
Morning all: Happy Tuesday. Dull skies here and much cooler, no more sun predicted for several days.
Loved your Goose, OG, and he is indeeed, very handsome!
Annette: Its such a joy to have a good dentist , I used to be nervous but now sit quite happily in the chair. (ours is 'modern' but not over the top in the way of extras - he has a new picture on the ceiling every year and plays music from a Classical radio station, which is very soothing). Hope that your problem is now sorted.
Its upsetting to hear that the wildlife is already suffering from the Oil Spillage over in USA- a predictable consequence but makes your blood boil to think it could have been avoided if precautions had been taken.
Yesterday's Bear Centre update is so sad - Lily seems to have given up on Hope. The Centre team are searching, and the worst thing is not knowing for sure whether the cub is already dead or whether she might be wandering hungry. Heart-breaking.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Good morning All. The Sun is still shining here but much cooler. Rain forecast for the early hours tomorrow.
OG, You had checked on Lily and Hope before me this morning, so my heart sank when I read your comment. We must be optimistic and hope that they find each other.
Another one from the Wildlife Park - can't stay miserable with Meerkats to cheer us up!
Brilliant photograph OG. Just what I needed to see.
original goldfinch lovely pic of the meerkat, such cheeky little things. As you say we couldn't be miserable with these adorable little things.l
