Loch of the Lowes - 2010

Thought I'd start a separate thread for the posting of news, updates, pictures etc. from the nest at the Loch of the Lowes. Now that the first chick has hatched at Loch Garten the Daily Update page is going to get too unwieldy if it is used for news from LotL as well as LG, and the "News From Other Nests" is getting pretty full as well.

  • My eyes are so blurry to type now :-(

Mine too Sandra. And I am out very shortly and for much of the day and evening so I do hope you can feast your eyes for a good while today as I'm not going to be much of a  ''backup'' pic grabber  :(

  • Cirrus.

I have to go now, son will be here soon. I will try and be here as much as possible today to capture some pics.

    Bye.

If nothing goes right, go left! :-)

  • Good morning Sandra and Cirrus if you are still around.  Can't tell you how sad I feel that Lady has gone.  First thing I did when I logged in was to read the diary and that started the tears flowing.  They seem to be pretty sure Lady has left us for her long journey.  All we can hope is that she has a safe journey to her second home.   What a legacy she has left, many healthy chicks and such a wonderful Mum to them all.  Thought I could cope with the fact that Lady would leave but find it so difficult.  Knew it would happen if she was well enough but it doesn't make it any easier does it.  Be safe Lady so many people were captured by your beauty and strengeth to overcome whatever ailed you.

Sandra  have to say again thanks for all the pics you captured of Lady and the family, you will never know how much they mean now.

  • I just want to echo what everyone else has said this morning Sandra. You have done a great job reporting on this thread and put on some marvellous pics. Lets hope that the Lady has the strength to migrate and return at least once more to her Scottish home.

  • Hi Sandra and everybody.  Just looked in and discovered that Lady has not been seen since yesterday. Reading the official blog, Emma says they are going to wait until the end of today before officially reporting that she has probably gone south.

Its sad, but after all she's gone through and the bad weather in Scotland recently she deserves a vacation in sunny Africa.  Lets hope she makes the journey successfully.

Thank you Sandra for all your pics through the weeks of Lady and Laird and the chicks. The one you took this morning of a ghostly figure of a bird - fabulous - wonder what/who it was.

At present we have ENS so the chicks must be out and about.

  • Afternoon all!

I've been 'lurking' recently - reading the posts here forwarded to my email account - and would just like to echo the previous sentiments. I haven't been viewing the webcams recently, so thanks so much to those watching the comings and goings at Loch of the Lowes, and especially Sandra for the wonderful images :-)

I have saved them to look back at over the winter and reminisce, hope you don't mind.

Thanks to the poster (Alison?) of the video clip on YouTube of what might be the Lady's last appearance (sniff) - I bookmarked that one immediately! I'll be keeping an eye myself over the next couple of days if possible, but if this really is goodbye, I wish her the very best on her migration. She has done so much for Scottish ospreys, both in terms of her extraordinary breeding success and the publicity she has generated, and given a lot of pleasure to a great many of us. Her legacy is secure :-)

  • Good afternoon Robert the Bruce.  It is a "sniff" day for me and many others I suspect.  What a wonder Lady is and we can only hope for a safe migration and if she does not return a long retirement in the sun, she certainly deserves it.  I have only been watching for three years but have marvelled at her breeding success and her tenacity to overcome her illness and her legacy as you say is secure.  The ending of an osprey season is always a  bit sad as we have been so spoilt by Loch of the Lowes this year.  We now have to be positive and look forward to another year.

  • Think it the youngest on the nest with a big fish that it is talking to at the moment.

  • Chick one with a big fish at 3:30. I missed the fish delivery.

If nothing goes right, go left! :-)
