Weekly Chat Sunday, May 16 2010

Hi all: Thanks for chat and Ernie info - don't forget to read the last few posts of last week to catch up on folks.

Brenda:  My sister has been to the Chelsea Flower Show several times and has always loved it. Do hope the weather is kind on your day.

Patriciat:  How nice that people were so generous with your fund-raising efforts. Good for you - you must have a winning way!!

dibnlib: Thanks for spelling out Ernie's "real" name. Doesn't sound half as much fun as his more familiar name. Actually, I remember now - Premium Bonds - they were being sold when I was still in the UK.  I think my sister also has some that she bought way back when....

Emma: Painting is done - although just noticed a smudge of Pot of Cream (the paint) on a wood ceiling beam. How did it get there!!  Took all the blue painter's tape off the glass panes this afternoon and put the hardware back on and it looks pretty nice. Do need to do some tidying up where paint trickled under the tape and also onto the hinges a bit, but all pretty minimal.

Have been keeping tabs on Trucker Steve, whose cat has an eye problem. He's going to take her to the vet.  He's got a hard trip this time - three days of 11 hours a day to the next stop in Wisconsin.  He's in Montana now, where it's well into the evening.

Off to see how EJ is doing.  Have a nice Sunday morning all.

  • I was looking at train trips last week (probably when you mentioned the Pichi Richi train) and saw the Ghan train - it did look very modern.

  • Hmm. THought I'd just posted something about Trucker Steve - but can't see it. Apparently, he's shut down for the night in the town of ----- Peculiar, Missouri.  Just read the history and apparently the townspeople/postmaster came up with three options, all of which were in use already in the state, so the town postmaster wrote to the postmaster general in DC saying "We don't care what you call us as long as it's something 'peculiar' [meaning unique, one supposes]."  The postmaster general wrote back that he thought Peculiar was a fine name, and the rest is history.....

  • That's a great story about Peculiar, Annette.

AQ:    Enjoyed your pics.  Solar powered signals, eh?  We have some solar powered road signs here but nothing as important as actual signals.  Well done on being congratulated on your knitting skills. I used to knit for the children years ago but don't knit now.  (maybe I will, for the new grandchild... don't know).

Bright but not actually sunny here today, if you know what I mean.  A very warm night last night and hot temps. predicted for our part of UK today.  If this keeps up we have promised ourselves a Day Out on Monday.

    Have a good weekend, All.

  • Morning all (well, Lindybird anyway). :-)  Everyone must be on the Daily Update admiring the new addition.

OH's birthday today - got up planning to make him blueberry crepes and first thing I did was drop two eggs on the floor between my feet. Splattered all over my socks and, half-awake, had to sort the mess out before I even got to my first cup of coffee. Still, all nice now and OH still snoozing.  We are going out to dinner tonight (he chose Indian - I was thinking brunch tomorrow at the wonderful Biltmore but no). I called up upgrade his seat on his flight to UK but American Airlines "can't release any Business Class seats" until they know they can't sell them at full price!  They were very nice but wouldn't change the rules even though I asked very nicely.  :-)  The supervisor said there was a very good chance the upgrade will come through - that section of the plane is more than half-empty - but he couldn't promise of course.  So OH has "pending" gift. I gave him the option of knowing about his gift now or later and he's happy to wait (which will give me chance to think of something else if that falls through).  I had no idea you couldn't just upgrade if the seats were there; have spent all of my life in the air crammed into coach class.

Lindybird: Hope weather stays nice enough for your Monday outing.

  • What  nice present, Annette.   Hope you both enjoy his birthday today (did he still get the crepes?....)

Not sure about Monday weather but thanks.

  • He's still asleep. I may end up falling asleep again myself. Everything's ready if he wants them. Thank heaven got  more eggs yesterday

  • Annette - So glad I am not the only ones with hands that are inclined to do precisely the opposite thing than I intend them to do :-)

  • Been busy these last few days and going away next week for a few days so glad I was around to hear the news of the first  hatching. Down at LOTL hatch no 2 took place a day after the first though they were not laid that quickly so I wonder what we will find here at LG.

  • There's been a gap without me as I went into the garden to look at the weekend papers, and sat there half asleep watching the sparrows having a bath in the birdbath.  Its certainly hot here ( 40 deg. in the conservatory with half the blinds down and all the windows and doors open!). This morning, the supermarket had put out piles of sausages and burgers expecting lots of BBQ's, so I think we will be able to smell some of that later. Looking forward to watching the Final of 'Over the Rainbow' tonight as there have been some very talented girls on the show (competition for part of Dorothy in "Wizard of Oz"  show in London later, for those overseas) and one of the girls is local to around here: vote for Danielle!

  • Hi dibnlib:  is it hot there, too?
