Weekly Chat Sunday, May 16 2010

Hi all: Thanks for chat and Ernie info - don't forget to read the last few posts of last week to catch up on folks.

Brenda:  My sister has been to the Chelsea Flower Show several times and has always loved it. Do hope the weather is kind on your day.

Patriciat:  How nice that people were so generous with your fund-raising efforts. Good for you - you must have a winning way!!

dibnlib: Thanks for spelling out Ernie's "real" name. Doesn't sound half as much fun as his more familiar name. Actually, I remember now - Premium Bonds - they were being sold when I was still in the UK.  I think my sister also has some that she bought way back when....

Emma: Painting is done - although just noticed a smudge of Pot of Cream (the paint) on a wood ceiling beam. How did it get there!!  Took all the blue painter's tape off the glass panes this afternoon and put the hardware back on and it looks pretty nice. Do need to do some tidying up where paint trickled under the tape and also onto the hinges a bit, but all pretty minimal.

Have been keeping tabs on Trucker Steve, whose cat has an eye problem. He's going to take her to the vet.  He's got a hard trip this time - three days of 11 hours a day to the next stop in Wisconsin.  He's in Montana now, where it's well into the evening.

Off to see how EJ is doing.  Have a nice Sunday morning all.

  • margobird:   Yes thanks, got your message on my page.  Glad to hear you had a wonderful time on your hol.

  • Gosh, everyone is glued to the webcams as its so exciting at both LG and LotL today. No-ones been on here since me this morning.

Here is a pic of my lilac tree and apple blossom outside my kitchen window:

There has been some recent discussion on other threads about Realplayer not working on Windows 7. I'd just like to add that, after my trusty old PC died a death 3 weeks ago today and had to be replaced with a laptop complete with 7, Realplayer steadfastly refuses to download any live streaming feeds. I can record videos no problem but whatever tinkering I try with the settings on the laptop it will not record streamed media.

Interested to know if anyone out there who is using Windows 7 can record off the webcams.

Sandy, I just put a link on the other side to a Facebook page that discusses the problem

You may want to have a look at that as it gives a couple of suggestions from Real itself.

Gary: I've tried all the "fixes" that have been put forward from every possible source. It simply doesn't work on Windows 7.

Sandy, sorry about that. My last suggestion is to either throw it against the wall or change the operating system:(

Afternoon everyone. So wonderful to see all the pics and links. Lindybird, thanks for letting me know when Alan will be back. Phew!! I'm not goood under pressure!!

  • Nice pic Lindybird of apple blossom and lilac.

Ironing done but probably not as well as it should be.  Luckily OH irons his own stuff so he won't know what a pigs ear I made of mine.

  • Linda, that is a beautiful display of colour. Thanks so much

  • Hi Gary yes a lot of pressure today. Second chick at LOTL hatching at the moment, trying to keep an eye on EJ as well.  She must be thinking we have all deserted her today while we are watching the happenings at LOTL.

  • Took the pic because each year I swear I'll remember that the apple blossom only last for 2 - 3 days before it all falls.  You can just about see some of my feeders suspended from the branches, but no birds on them at that time. At least it makes standing at the sink a pleasure when there are brirds outside to watch.

  • Afternoon all

Lindybird - beautiful photograph of your blossom ... wish I had a nice view from my sink!

Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

  • Thanks for pix, posts, videos (Diane: Haven't been able to access the oil spill; probably jammed with viewers).    Exciting doings all round today by the sound of things..

Lindybird: Oh how I envy you the lilac tree. We pay an arm and two legs for bunches of lilac, typically flown in from the Northwest. I don't buy them; just stick my nose in them and inhale several times on the way into the store.  There is a type that blooms here, but it does better over the hill where the temps cooler at night than on the coast.

  • "Sandy, sorry about that. My last suggestion is to either throw it against the wall or change the operating system:("

Gary: Having had to buy a laptop at extremely short notice (you know being without access to the net is not an option at the moment!) - an expense I hadn't budgeted for, I'm not likely to start lobbing it at the masonry!  ;-))

The only way round it is to download a previous version of Windows - I used to run Vista so I could install that, but, quite frankly, I don't need the hassle of doing it at the moment. I just copy your vids!    LOL
