Weekly Chat Sunday, May 16 2010

Hi all: Thanks for chat and Ernie info - don't forget to read the last few posts of last week to catch up on folks.

Brenda:  My sister has been to the Chelsea Flower Show several times and has always loved it. Do hope the weather is kind on your day.

Patriciat:  How nice that people were so generous with your fund-raising efforts. Good for you - you must have a winning way!!

dibnlib: Thanks for spelling out Ernie's "real" name. Doesn't sound half as much fun as his more familiar name. Actually, I remember now - Premium Bonds - they were being sold when I was still in the UK.  I think my sister also has some that she bought way back when....

Emma: Painting is done - although just noticed a smudge of Pot of Cream (the paint) on a wood ceiling beam. How did it get there!!  Took all the blue painter's tape off the glass panes this afternoon and put the hardware back on and it looks pretty nice. Do need to do some tidying up where paint trickled under the tape and also onto the hinges a bit, but all pretty minimal.

Have been keeping tabs on Trucker Steve, whose cat has an eye problem. He's going to take her to the vet.  He's got a hard trip this time - three days of 11 hours a day to the next stop in Wisconsin.  He's in Montana now, where it's well into the evening.

Off to see how EJ is doing.  Have a nice Sunday morning all.

  • OH the bear videos are just   super SueC - thanks so much for the links- And also for all the other links, you industrial fans you - excellent work. So enjoyed them.

  • Now, come on DjoanS  & admit it, you're the mysterious winner of the European Lottery the other day - was it about 84 Million? Just a drop in the ocean to spend that on the kitchen, then.

ps.  The dog smelled very doggy in the car afterwards, and took ages to dry off.

  • Lindybird - I can't even begin to imagine an amount like 84 million ... too scary by half ... and I can't imagine what a kitchen would look like that cost 20 million! Mine has to be one of the smallest kitchens ever :-)

Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

  • All well but busy, busy , busy ... .  I seem to remember saying before that going on hols was hard work - but it's worse coming back!!   I love being back home, it's just the unpacking, washing, ironing, catching up with garden, catching up with correspondence and appointments  ... catching up? if only!  Well, I'll keep trying, but not tonight!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • There has been some recent discussion on other threads about Realplayer not working on Windows 7. I'd just like to add that, after my trusty old PC died a death 3 weeks ago today and had to be replaced with a laptop complete with 7, Realplayer steadfastly refuses to download any live streaming feeds. I can record videos no problem but whatever tinkering I try with the settings on the laptop it will not record streamed media.

Interested to know if anyone out there who is using Windows 7 can record off the webcams.

Sandy, I just put a link on the other side to a Facebook page that discusses the problem

    http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=44675316826&topic=13146

You may want to have a look at that as it gives a couple of suggestions from Real itself.

  • Evening/morning/whatever all:

Cirrus: What a tiny little creature!  And already demanding attention/food - or is he saying 'How the heck did I get here?!"

Sandy: Ah, first the "good" news on the Derby peregrines (ultra-solicitous parent); then the "not quite such good" news (very practical parent).

Djoan: You think that kitchen estimate was a mistake?  Just don't sign that printout!  :-)

OG: It's clear you need a maid and a personal secretary so you can take more vacations.

Regarding ridiculous lottery amounts, why don't they pick, say 20 or whatever winners and let more people share the dough?  Ridiculously warm here today - 80 and very windy. Way too early for these temps.  Off to dig up something cool for dinner...

  • Hi everyone: Had a power outage this evening and now back to normal.  Am ignoring a toothache in hopes it will magically disappear overnight. Temps were well up in the 80s as it turns out today; thank heaven cooler weather on the way.

  • Hmm. Well very quiet (only me) on here tonight.  Diane is probably busy installing a new roof, digging out the basement, or out in the woods with her chainsaw (not pink!).  :-)

  • Just checking in between storms. Looks like no LG chicks yet. EJ sure is doing a lot of wiggling, though. Annette: I hope your toothache goes away very soon.

BTW: The spectacled bear cubs have been named Chaska ("dawn star") and Bernardo ("brave like a bear"). The cubs and their mother have been moved to a larger living area, so no more webcam. I was glad to see that they are only viewable by the public for a few short hours on weekends. If you watch this slideshow of them, you may have a cute overdose. http://nationalzoo.si.edu/Animals/Amazonia/Exhibit/AndeanBears/cubphotos.cfm  Everyone have a nice Friday.
