Weekly Chat Sunday, May 16 2010

Hi all: Thanks for chat and Ernie info - don't forget to read the last few posts of last week to catch up on folks.

Brenda:  My sister has been to the Chelsea Flower Show several times and has always loved it. Do hope the weather is kind on your day.

Patriciat:  How nice that people were so generous with your fund-raising efforts. Good for you - you must have a winning way!!

dibnlib: Thanks for spelling out Ernie's "real" name. Doesn't sound half as much fun as his more familiar name. Actually, I remember now - Premium Bonds - they were being sold when I was still in the UK.  I think my sister also has some that she bought way back when....

Emma: Painting is done - although just noticed a smudge of Pot of Cream (the paint) on a wood ceiling beam. How did it get there!!  Took all the blue painter's tape off the glass panes this afternoon and put the hardware back on and it looks pretty nice. Do need to do some tidying up where paint trickled under the tape and also onto the hinges a bit, but all pretty minimal.

Have been keeping tabs on Trucker Steve, whose cat has an eye problem. He's going to take her to the vet.  He's got a hard trip this time - three days of 11 hours a day to the next stop in Wisconsin.  He's in Montana now, where it's well into the evening.

Off to see how EJ is doing.  Have a nice Sunday morning all.

  • Went to Astbury Country Park on Monday, and Buzz enjoyed his swim:

  • Afternoon Lindybird great photos of Buzz, he is just gorgeous.

    Margobird

  • Thanks Margobird.  Thought all you dog lovers would like the pics.

I have to go out now for an hour.    back later.

  • Morning all: Lovely photo of Buzz, Lindybird; also thanks (again) to Cirrus for sharing LOTL pix with us all. Super close ups.  Off to rummage in cupboard for cereal; back later.

  • Have been out to collect freezer which was discarded by Friend who has had kitchen redone. We have a large freezer kept in the garage, but since having the allotment Husband has been so good at growing the fruit and veg we need more storage so that we can enjoy the fruits of his labours in the winter. This one is only small compared to ours but will be useful when we have a lot of produce. So of course when we came home with it, we had to clear out an enormous amount of the garage to stand it in the corner!  A lot of stuff is now on the driveway and I don't know where its going to go....  (we don't keep a car in the garage, have not done that for 20 years) Have put a large bag of pinecones collected in the woods, to go back in the loft for Christmastime (will I need them?  again, I don't know....).

Caerann:   Nice to hear from you, and wonderful news that the job is good and you are settling in.

Diane:   Our No. 1 Son is useful to know, as he works in I. T. and so whizzes over the keyboard as if playing the piano;   I have no idea what he has done except he asked me a couple of times "do you need to keep this?" and then suddenly there was more space in the memory or something, and everything works now.

Barbara Jean:    Had no chance to reply once again to you, as I've been offline.  You can be an honorary Brit then, if you like!

Margobird:    I wouldn't have paid that for a gondola either, and it sounds as if you both had a smashing time in Venice anyway, without it.  Lovely memories to come back with.

    Annette:

I know it sounds absurd, but I've never, ever seen or heard, the elusive pink

Small Handful Bird.  It flies away without a word, when only slightly just disturbed

And when rated for the rarest bird, it only managed to come in Third.

  • Lindybird:    :-)))   Wonder what the first two rarest birds were - the mind boggles.    What? Cars in garages? That's a novel thought..... Granddaughter was due to arrive today to take some of her stuff out of our garage and back to Arizona but called earlier in the week to say they have the money for gas to get them here and back, but not enough for inbetween!!  :o)      OH groaned since we really are starting to sort things out and have to move things out of the garden shed (very loose description of a rusty and hazardous obstacle in the back yard) that will need to be carted away before we can get folks in to repair the wall.

    • Number one chick takes her first look at life
  • Hi all.

Just a quick line to update on the Derby peregrines. After I prematurely announced the death of the third chick on Sunday (I think) it managed to hang on until this morning. The falcon gave it almost 24 hour protection since Sunday which sent their blog into a frenzy of speculation about the unprecedented behavior from an adult peregrine to an obviously stricken chick (was on its back throughout).

Normal service was resumed in the early hours of this morning when the falcon deemed that the little one had passed away and promptly fed it to the remaining pair of chicks.

  • Afternoon all ... been busy this p.m. .... had a chap here measuring up for a new kitchen .... two and a half hours later he gives us a price of .... £20million !!!!!!! New software installed this morning on his laptop obviously got it wrong ... we did have a good laugh about it ... and he did a print out of it just for fun ... think I'll frame it :)

Lindybird - Buzz is just too gorgeous ... if I had a dog I'd want one like him!

Cirrus - thanks for lovely LotL pics ... I've missed seeing all of that ... but I did look at the video of the hatching just now ... tear-jerking in the extreme

Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!
