Hi all: Thanks for chat and Ernie info - don't forget to read the last few posts of last week to catch up on folks.
Brenda: My sister has been to the Chelsea Flower Show several times and has always loved it. Do hope the weather is kind on your day.
Patriciat: How nice that people were so generous with your fund-raising efforts. Good for you - you must have a winning way!!
dibnlib: Thanks for spelling out Ernie's "real" name. Doesn't sound half as much fun as his more familiar name. Actually, I remember now - Premium Bonds - they were being sold when I was still in the UK. I think my sister also has some that she bought way back when....
Emma: Painting is done - although just noticed a smudge of Pot of Cream (the paint) on a wood ceiling beam. How did it get there!! Took all the blue painter's tape off the glass panes this afternoon and put the hardware back on and it looks pretty nice. Do need to do some tidying up where paint trickled under the tape and also onto the hinges a bit, but all pretty minimal.
Have been keeping tabs on Trucker Steve, whose cat has an eye problem. He's going to take her to the vet. He's got a hard trip this time - three days of 11 hours a day to the next stop in Wisconsin. He's in Montana now, where it's well into the evening.
Off to see how EJ is doing. Have a nice Sunday morning all.
AQ Glad you enjoyed your trip and thank you for the pics. Wow, what a big eucalyptus! Hope your coach was comfortable.
Awww. Big ol' giant tree has so much spirit. Love him. Just love him. Welcome back, AQ. The countryside in the first pic does, indeed, look pitifully dry. Reminds me of pictures of the U.S. dust bowl days. Thanks for the photos!
Diane, we only had a brief stop for the half dozen camera-nuts. Only time to snap. No time for me to hug the giant, 'though someone did. I missed that photo'ing the sign. <sigh> One day, she sez, she will return on her own with time to spare. If only. Now I must see to vegies. Nose back to the grindstone, no more meals placed in front of me with hardest thing to do to decide what to have . . .
See you are back, AQ: Look forward to seeing some of your many photos.
Morning, All, here is this weeks 'smile' as its Monday morning again (again already?)
Good Morning All.
We had plenty of rain last evening / night. Sun is shining now, with showers promised.
AQ, Lovely to see your photographs and looking forward to seeing more. I could just imagine being dwarfed by that splendid, eucalyptus tree when trying to hug it.
Annette, My OH will do the vacuuming but somehow forgets about the dusting !
DjoanS, Hope the new boiler fitting goes smoothly. Let us know the progress and do have a good moan if neccessary.
Diane, Thanks for the Peregrine news. I will definitely have a look
I don't know if Margo was flying with BA, if so she could have a double problem - volcanic ash or the strike, but as she said, she was sure they could 'tolerate' a few more days in venice.
I must do some HW this morning. Enjoy yourseves today.
Linda, thanks for today's funny picture. It's good to have a laugh.
Morning all ... first moan of the day!! Only one of the two men turned up for the boiler job ... and he's chatty ... wish he would just get on with the job :(( ... and its raining!
Lindybird - I like the Monday 'smile' ... very good.
Just catching up with all the chat now
Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

Morning all: Very gray and damp here today - was very chilly (well, in 60s) and breezy in Ventura yesterday. Today, Jerry Brown, a former governor of California from the 70s, is speaking at the local university. It's close to the whale counting location (last day for me!) so I'll probably go and hear him on the way to the whales. This guy was very counter-culture in those days: wouldn't live in the Governor's Mansion; drove a funky, gas-saving car around Sacramento, eschewed all the position's trappings. His critics nicknamed him "Governor Moonbeam." I always liked him. Anyway, he's running again for Arnie's job this year and I'll probably vote for him again. :-)
AQ: Lovely pix - do post more. Your "farmhouse in the trees" photo is similar to what you see here in the inland valleys (Bakersfield/Fresno, etc.) during the summer. Do love old trees - 500 years! - what tales they could tell. Thinking up something for dinner is a big bore isn't it? Sigh.
Lindybird: Your bear photo reminds me of the birds that sit on the end of Stearns Wharf - why bother to dive for fish when you've got these nice humans who do all the work for you. I was down there some months back and a bird was trying to grab a fish before the guy even got it off the line!
Brenda: OH used to forget the dusting; now he does surfaces but sort of forgets to do the things on the surfaces (alarm clocks, lamps, etc). :-)
Djoan: Oh dear. Chatty workmen. We got three quotes from workmen to install the French doors and one of them chatted non-stop long after we'd discussed the project - told us all about previous jobs, employers, current friends, his garden, who he'd sued (!!). Funny thing, it didn't bother my quiet OH. I said that if we hired him, I'd have to go AWOL! (We didn't.) :-)
Good grief: Just checked weather forecast and there's a 40 percent chance of rain - rain?? - today. !! Traffic news on radio has just reported an injured bird on the southbound 101.... (In L.A. it would more likely be a drive-by shooting.) off to start day.
No more moans from me ... electrician turned up and first chap's mate turned up ... a 2 day job is going to be completed today ... yippeeeee :-)))
