Weekly Chat, Sunday May 9, 2010

Morning/evening all:  Lovely day here.  Sunny, warm, cactii are beginning to bloom.  Will be keeping one eye on the volcano and the other on EJ while doing other things tonight (hmmm...). Should be interesting.  Lots of chat about the volcano on the last page of the previous week.  Off to start dinner; back later!

  • enjoyed all the chat, funny joke and the oh so cute Tarziers, never heard of them before, wish they could all live naturally out in the rain forest without being poked and prodded.

Have just enjoyed a very pleasant few hours with OG and OH at our local garden centre. Nice to meet them at last. They now have a few days holiday up here so I do hope the forecast is right and that the weather brightens up for them, and of course also hope they manage to see the elusive Moray Firth dolphins.I am sure my Mum doesn't believe they exist as in all the times she has been to Chanonry Point she hasn't seen them Now of course she never will as Drs advice is that she is not taken away from her own environment as it might cause distress and confusion - so sad.

  • Linda, as you say. picture framing is quite an expensive exercise. I admired an artist's oil painting in Venice, just as he was finishing it. My husband bought it for me and picked it up before we returned home.  I thought the cost of the painting was expensive enough but back home, after the picture framer spent so long  convincing me of the most suitable frame, ( which I was, and still am, so pleased with)  it ended up as an extremely expensive present.  Good Luck.

Alan, loved the joke. You have to find an English, Welsh and Scottish joke now.

  • dibnlib:  How nice that you were able to meet OG and her OH, and put a face to the name.  I hope that the weather is kind to them, too, and that it warms up a bit now at LG!

Yes, Brenda I have been caught out before in bringing back unframed pics from holiday - a very small one cost me about 5 times more to frame than the actual picture had. (still love it, though !)

  • Scottish Joke:   " Doctor, Doctor, It hurts when I lift my arm up like this....".

Doctor:    "Och, well, don't do it then !!"

  • Forgot to say;  Hope AQ that you enjoy your hols on the coach trip. Don't forget to show us some photos later of the interesting bits.

Last night enjoyed very much the Hebrides programme once again:  he saw dolphins, and watched and snapped pics of the baby grey seals.  Wonderful scenes of empty landscapes - I love it when there is no sign of Man on the horizon. Its turned out to be a very unmissable series of programmes.

  • Lindybird: Oh, been there, spent that, on art framing. By the time you've picked the perfect frame, the two layers of matting (after all, that second one does make the picture "pop" so nicely) and the very expensive non-glare/"museum" glass to protect all this from the light, you're often way over the value of the actual painting.

dibnlib: Glad you had nice time with OG and OH!

Trucker Steve is in fabulous rest stop just south of the California/Oregon border.... now heading toward Ashland, where the whole town turns into a Shakespeare festival (a very serious one!) every summer.

  • Just been to see Truckcam - nice pics of California, Annette.     Shakespeare, really ??

  • It's getting to be a tourist attraction!

    Sat track schedule Spring 2014

LG 7 days; RW & SWT nil; LDOP varies

  • Hi all: Wonder how far you have to hike to get that view (which of course, we get 24/7 with no effort at all).

Lindybird: Oh yes, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland is a national tourist attraction - this is its 75th year.  See http://www.orshakes.org/

Just having tree installed in parkway (area between sidewalk and street) courtesy of the city and Goleta Valley Beautiful, which plants trees all over town on public land.  It's free; they even dig the hole!  Brilliant!  We're getting a Chinese Pistache, not exactly native (but can't accommodate a California Oak in that space!) but will blend well with the Chinese Elms already well established (makes sense right?)   Same kind of open, breezy look.  It even comes with a Tree Bag (plastic bag that we have to fill with water once a week until it becomes established).

Fabulous scenery courtesy of Trucker Steve today - well, you know what I mean.

  • Just catching up (I seem to be saying that every time...) so I've missed OG and Margobird (glad you met up with OG, Dibnlib, hope you recognised each other ok). Thanks all for interesting stories, and to auntie for the snowy pic of EJ on Wed morning, now my wallpaper.  The Pichi Richi Railway looks great, AQ, although I think I've missed you too, and I could say have a good trip to Alan but it might be too late.  It will be quiet on here.  Truck Dude now in Oregon, not far to destination, shame I've missed those pics too Annette.

Have just finished a fabulous two weeks of ISS watching, not every night because we have had cloud, but we've probably seen it six or seven times.  It's expected to be visible again from 13 June. So huge thanks to Tiger and Cirrus, it's been fascinating.
