Morning/evening all: Lovely day here. Sunny, warm, cactii are beginning to bloom. Will be keeping one eye on the volcano and the other on EJ while doing other things tonight (hmmm...). Should be interesting. Lots of chat about the volcano on the last page of the previous week. Off to start dinner; back later!
Good evening original goldfinch, lovely newsy post. We go in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Cab to Gatwich at 4.00 so will be getting up at about 2.30 which is going to be a bit of a shock.
Cake for LG sounds good and I do hope you have time to get there.
The volcanic ash is not a problem for us but if we had been going a day later we would not have got back as BA are going on strike from 18 May so we will have returned home the day before.
Enjoy your week and take care.
Margobird
Margobird - wondered about you when we heard about the strike - good that you will be home by then Enjoy!!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Thanks TerryM all looking good for the Venice trip. Good job we are returning on 17 May as BA go on strike from18 May.
Evening everyone. Just popped in briefly to read updates. Congratulations Lindybird to you and your family on the exciting news.
Hope you have a lovely time on your holiday OG, and meeting up with Dibnlib too. Thats great. Hope you make it to LG especially after making fruit loaf. The staff will be drooling.
Margobird - hope you have a lovely trip to Venice to celebrate your anniversary. Glad you remembered the card in time.
Seems like so many people are heading off in these few days/weeks before the action with young ospreys begins.
Belated thanks to eveyone who sent congrats to Steed and myself on our anniversary last week. Daughters are now steamrolling towards school exam time so tension is mounting in the Avenger household. Thank goodness for ospreys to bring some distraction.
Emma - thanks for the good wishes for our holiday. Are both your girls doing exams this summer? Must be quite difficult for you - one doing exams needs a lot of extra TLC, but two at once and tensions can run high!
Thanks to all for news, chatter, pics of volcano, Phoebe’s Hope, Hope the bear, peregines (love their striped trousers), cactus, and the ospreys. I wish those gone and going away a safe and enjoyable holiday. Congratulations to Lindybird & family - You will need to reserve baby-sitting time. Annette - on Sunday we started a new series of Foyles War. I see it is dated 2009. Here I can watch a volcano while it erupts but we still get TV progs long after they are aired in UK. Himself reckons they only make one DVD to send around the world. LOL. I must ask dau what are Welsh potatoes - whether they are a variety or a recipe. They were baked in their skins in foil.
Hi everyone. Thanks for all the great posts, pictures etc. Not posted in the Weekly Chat for a while. I'd a great experience while putting out bird food today. It was one of those moments that sometimes happen if you have a lot of startlings visit. The birds begin to gather on the phone lines, and washing lines, in anticipation of eating. Well among the many talents of starlings, along with impressions, amazing winter pre-roost displays; is a great love of food. Well, I'd just put the tray on the bird table, and the next thing I'm very close to between about 10 and 20 starlings, flying in to grab food, making a getway, and all the usual antics. I think this was because I wasn't really making direct eye contact with the birds. It's not that they stay still and serene but you it's phenomenal to watch how they go about their routine. Normally I'm back in the house before I see the feeding frenzy. Sad to say I don't take my camera out when I'm feeding the birds.patricat: I'm very sorry to hear about the loss of your sister's dog.margobird: I hope you have a fantastic time in Venice. I really hope you aren't held back with the volcano situation.Lindybird: That's brilliant news to hear that you going to be a granmother. Congratulations to the parents to be.OG: Hope you have a wonderful holiday.Paul.
Warning! This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar. Approach with extreme edginess.
Evening/morning all: Well, live cam at LG is down this morning (went down just as I started the new thread) so here I am. No whale counting this afternoon; they packed it in right after noon and tomorrow the wind is supposed to be even stronger. Didn't do any painting today - did do some ironing though!!
Thanks for pix Alan: I gather the Norfolk eagles are expected to fledge later this month (and just read a note that their cam will be turned off during overnight hours starting tonight) http://www.wvec.com/marketplace/microsite-content/eagle-cam.html
Margobird: If I miss you tomorrow (today!) have a WONDERFUL time in Venice and don't worry about the birds; lotsa folks are keeping close tabs on them. Glad you managed to squeeze in the trip in between volcanos and strikes.
OG: How nice that you'll get to see dibnlib (but better keep it under your hat that she might miss out on cake if you get to LG first).
Emma Peel: How old are daughters? Teenagers under stress can be - um - stressful. (And belated congrats to your anniversary.)
AQ: Told my OH about the one-DVD for the entire world and we both fell about laughing. We have four separate Foyles War programs this time round.
Heron: Watch out for those starlings - wouldn't want to see a remake of The BIrds set in your backyard. :-)
Ah LG cam is back with Odin and EJ intrigued. Off I go to Daily Update.
Hi, Annette. Your cacti flowers are just wonderful. So exotic and lovely!!! Sorry you didn't get to go whale watching today.
Do you remember when I teased you so about your ants. Well, nature got revenge for you. We have had unseasonably cold weather the last few days, and yesterday our brand new furance wouldn't start. My poor Dad was furious with it. So the furnace guy came this morning, and lo and behold, there was nothing wrong with the furnace except that a few Asian Lady Beetles had managed to find their way into a pipe and plugged it up. So the furnace fail safes wouldn't let it kick on. I think in the UK they call them Harlequin ladybirds (?). Furnace guy said he's had to unclog dozens of furnaces this year. All that worry over BEETLES! sheesh. I'll never make fun of your ants again. :-)
Hope your painting goes well. I'll bet your doors are beautiful.
OG and Margobird: I hope you both have absolutely wonderful trips!!!!!!!!!
