OK. So we're keeping a special eye out for Odin this morning..... Cirrus: I remember Odin bringing fish very early when I was watching the chicks last year - it's much lighter earlier then so that may account for it. jsb: Thanks for the info re EJ's (non-)returning chicks. BIrds must be a lot like us: We love to see our kids but aren't too keen on having them move back in and taking over the house.
Odin's back with the fish ... EJ takes it & flies off ... Odin takes over the eggs! All's well with the world again ... phew :)))

Just flicked on in tome to see Odin hand over a fish to EJ at the side of the nest, she flew off, and now Odin is egg-sitting! All is right with the world!
SNAP!!!!
Smiles, Jan.
I doubt they had a tiff. That is a human emotion. I rather believe EJ is afraid to leave the eggs and nest because of the intruder. Her hunger got the best of her fear so she took the fish . I am sure Odin can handle the intruder . Odin will not take kindly to another male getting on his back to mate LOL

Just logged on to see Odin sitting on the eggs. Great stuff.
He's staying very alert whilst on the nest, as if he thinks intruder might still be around. Even if he has been putting security first to prevent him fishing yesterday, I'm glad the fishing instinct took over this morning. I hope they both feed well today.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
He is facing the direction that the intruder takes to come to the nest. He is usually facing the direction to the right where EJ is eating
I'll bet the intruders is why he has done so little fishing in the past couple of days
And EJ has not complained about the lack of food because she wants him to stick around and help defend the nest
I missed all the drama just now as I had to leave the screen for a while. I like your theory, Barbara Jean, that EJ is keen to defend her nest and the eggs. At least she is eating now.
So glad odin brought a fish, and he's now on the eggs. He looks fairly alert, so any possible intruders:

Odin alarms, then stands and flaps - EJ returns so can't have been far away, together they defend their nest. Got a good pic of them:
EDIT; EJ is now happily on the eggs again - Odin not far away, I suspect.

That's a fantastic pic of them, Lindybird. They certainly make a great couple.
