Weekly Chat, Sunday May 2, 2010

HI all: I'm late starting this.  Be sure to check the last two pages of the previous Weekly Chat - some interesting links, news, updates on nest data, photos. I haven't had a chance to read them all but off to do that now.

  • Hi Dibnlib - nice to see (read) you again.  I know exactly what you mean about your mother re housework/washing.  I have a friend who is very similar.  Her husband does the housework but she takes charge of the washing and even has the pegs colour-coordinated.  No mixing and matching of the peg colours on each garment for her.  I never even thought of that until she mentioned it, with the result that I am now unable to hang washing out without thinking of the same - groan.

  • out of practice, just lost my last blog, rats or other unprintable words. News once again reporting on the BP disaster. Makes the blod boil and me cry. All that precious wildlife doesn't deserve this.

MARGOBIRD glad you enjoyed Cinderella.Love ballet and was very disapointed not to get tickets for Swan Lake a while back. Saw The dying swan once and it was so realistic of a swan dying that it also bought tears to the eyes.

    OGplease see your own page

  • EMMA used to have a smile when a neighbour who had twins always hung out the washing in 2 identical items together. Mind you Diane was so particular that we used to joke that she would iron her grass if she could!!!!  We were flooded here a few years ago and gardens needed some cleaning up with all the dross that was bought down. We all went out in scruffs and wellies and Dianne was out in a rather nice skirt and court shoes!!!!

  • Dibnlib - I think your friend might have regretted wearing her nice outfit in those circumstances. Personally, I'm a big fan of the coloured wellies we see everywhere.  One good thing spun-off from the likes of Glastonbury and T-in-the-Park

Good evening dibnlib and what dreadul news is coming out of this oil slick.  It breaks my heart to see those birds that are so oiled up.  I feel BP have a lot to answer for.

We were lucky enough to see the Bolshoi Ballet at this theatre about 3 years ago.  Just magnificent.  It was the English National Ballet who did this production and it was extremely good.  Have to say that I find ballet quite moving and often leave the theatre with tears in my eyes.

    Margobird

  • dibnlib just reached this post as I am reading posts in reverse.  Do enjoy Romeo and Juliet and the otyher shows you are going to.  Nothing likea live show is there.  As you say it is quite expensive now and that is why we try and see things at our local theatres as they are not London prices.

    Margobird

  • Glad to hear you enjoyed your trip to the Ballet, Margobird.

Thanks to Diane for the links to the osprey nest being moved plus the falcon story. (Why am I not surprised to hear that you are thinking of doing those floors yourself? )

OG:   Think it was you who mentioned cleaning cupboards out - yes, I have done this for years, it makes less of a Big Job when you spread it out over a few days, doing a bit at a  time. Of course, I always take the coward's way out, and do the easy ones first!!

Heron 77  Nice pic of your Goldfinches - can you come round & tell mine to sit still for me while I snap them?

  • EMMA   trouble was that Diane actually did not own any trousers or wellies. She just refused to wear them. I love the fancy wellies but have rather large calves so they do not fit. So bless Hunters cos they do but they only do the wider Huntress style in the green so I have to make do with that.

  • Another busy day done – OH pressure-hosed one half of the deck this afternoon, while I took winter mosses etc from tops of pots , fed the plants and topped them up.  We buy “Lakeland Gold” non-peat products made of wool and bracken, so mixed this with some good garden soil.  So a general tidy up of that area – hope to do second half tomorrow.  Birds felt a bit left out as we were around the feeder pole, but some were brave enough to come closer than usual.

Annette – your Sister’s report sounds about normal for British weather – frost possible tonight, after a week of really warm nights.  Apparently some snow high in the Cairngorms today – I trust this was not at LG!  I am way behind with reading magazines and books – might give Sudoku a rest for a season to catch up a bit!  Pleased you did not get a stain from the Cat-poop – your new carpet seems accident-prone!  TerryM – potatoes in bags are coming up – next to house wall so hopefully safe if we do get frost tonight.  Planted leftovers in veg garden yesterday – we only have room for a few, but were surprised at last year’s crop.  Dibnlib – good to see you posting here again – thanks for your message – will reply on your page.  We miss the “culture” we used to enjoy when we could go to the Manchester theatres – and also used to have a season ticket for Bolton Octagon.  Emma – we use wooden pegs, so no colour matching problem here!  No wellies at all for me – always had very high instep.  Now find it difficult to wear any footwear other than my NHS shoes – although I do wear an old pair of sandals in the garden – so old they have changed shape with me!

Now going to have early supper snack as I want to use up Christmas leftovers in a “crisp buttie” and daren’t have that too late at night.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • dibnlib Hope you enjoy The Priests.  They are really wonderful singers.  Father Eugene has performed at the Summer Recitals organised by my church, which is in the centre of Belfast.  He's a real performer - sang some humorous songs with wonderful facial expression.  My mother was a professional singer - the first to broadcast on what is now Radio Ulster, and her expression, both facial and vocal, was wonderful.  She'd really have approved of Fr Eugene.

Haven't had much time to watch or post this weekend - Tweed was competing in agility yesterday (accompanied, of course, by 'Mum').  Did very well in his new, higher grade - got a 4th place rosette and would have had a higher one if I had been able to run faster (well, it's not so easy when you're an OAP!)
