Weekly Chat, Sunday April 25, 2010

Hi all: Getting a late start here today. Been busy in the garden all day and now working on getting some of the glue out of the corners of the panes in the French door, so have back to computer.

Previous Weekly Chat's last page included long chatty posts from Lindybird and OG, a link from Djoan to the BOT Barn Owls, which have their first egg, and a colorful greeting from Diane to AQ who's having a birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY AQ!  :-)

All this Extreme Ironing talk has me wracked with guilt, as have been out walking with Husband and Dog, followed by 'resting' on the couch, all the while knowing that there is a menacing pile of ironing hidden in the spare bedroom, waiting for me. I promise I'll do it tomorrow, honest.  Reminded me of some years ago when I had a neighbour who was quite a fan of sunbathing in the summer:  she sorted her problem of the ironing pile by running a lead through the french windows, repositioning the TV, and watching the whole of Wimbledon whilst ironing in the garden in her bikini!

Ha ha Lindybird! - I had a neighbour years ago who did the same - she ironed in her bikini at the front of the house! For some reason, all the husbands in the vicinity took a real interest in their front gardens----

Anyway, regarding ironing, I do as little as possible. I spoke to OH last evening about whether he would mind if I didn't iron the duvet cover. All I will say is that I am SO glad that I married him. He hasn't a clue whether his bedclothes have creases or not. Sigh of relief-------

  • original goldfinch am loving your photos of birds that you are posting, they really are very, very good.  Finch is lovely.

  • A robin who was taking a shower with his wife in the patio pond, has just 'attacked' his reflection in the patio door, fallen over backwards, but is OK, simultaneously Mr Blackbird came along, hopping, and chased away Mrs Robin and proceeded to shower himself. In about twenty minutes the bats will be out, but they only stay around for a short time.

  • Annette :  Thanks for the reminder about Phoebe. She has not had much luck with her last 2 clutches and she did keep us going through all those dark winter months. Took a quick snapshot just now:

  • Glad Mr Robin is OK !

Annette:  Hope your OH helps with the painting, now that you've done the boring bit.

  • Just gone back to see what Annette put about Phoebe, and found Alan's lovely pic, beautiful. Annette, thanks for the reminder, I have been popping into the Phoebe site occasionally, but had no idea there were now 2 eggs again. She is a trier!

I'm off now, have a Good Night, All.

  • Just been watching Phoebe and this ad came up. Linda is this you?

  • Afraid I'm not exactly a decorative object, myself, & I don't  know anything about sculpture......  ; -)

I'll go and check out her website!

  • jsb: Had to laugh at mental image of Robin toppling backwards. What was that beer - 5%?? - that you mentioned on the Daily Update? Sounds like a lunchtime drink.   Alan: Thanks for Phoebe image; do hope she has better luck this time. Lindybird: OH tends to leave painting to me since (as I mentioned a few days ago), he slaps on too much paint in hopes of avoiding second coat, which means we have dribbles down surfaces and then when you go to remove the painter's tape, you have to be careful or the "real" paint comes off too 'coz there's so much gunked up!!  But I like painting; something to do with immediate gratification....  What's all this about you posing for sculptures?  :-)))   Off with a book and lunch to the garden (including smooshed avocado).

  • Annette – thanks for comments on photos – still haven’t yet learned to use half the camera’s functions!  I think what is helpful to me is it's very fast to “refresh” so that I can keep shooting until I get what I want.  Pleased that you are taking a day of rest after a very full week – enjoy!  I actually caught Trucker Steve setting out this morning (his time) but this evening when I looked he seemed to be parked up in a lay-by (do you call them that?  - a bit at the side of the road where you can pull off the carriageway to stop a while).  Lindybird – don’t feel guilty about the ironing – the walking was on medical advice – Doctor didn’t say to do the ironing!  And if you lose that bit of weight, then you will look better when you do the ironing outside in your bikini!  HeatherB - didn’t iron poly-cotton duvet covers, but we bought a 100% cotton one last year by mistake – too big and heavy for me to handle with various arthritic conditions, so OH does it every time.  jsb – lovely story of your robins - laughed at the male, but pleased he's OK.  And you have bats – I’m envious!  Alan – lovely shot of dear Phoebe – is this her fourth nest this year?

Well, I promised watery subjects, so here is the main attraction:

Flying in (noisily) from nearby fields:

Grazing (always at least one with head up, on security duty):

These Barnacle Geese will soon be returning to their summer breeding ground on the Svalbard Archipelago north of the Arctic Circle.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
