Weekly Chat, Sunday April 25, 2010

Hi all: Getting a late start here today. Been busy in the garden all day and now working on getting some of the glue out of the corners of the panes in the French door, so have back to computer.

Previous Weekly Chat's last page included long chatty posts from Lindybird and OG, a link from Djoan to the BOT Barn Owls, which have their first egg, and a colorful greeting from Diane to AQ who's having a birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY AQ!  :-)

  • Hey, Annette. Here's a page of webcams in the Western U.S. that are pointed at volcanoes and also at geysers, mountain views, beaches, fire lookouts, and other structures. There are several in California, New Mexico, and Arizona. I found it because I was looking for a webcam of the Mount St. Helens volcano. Thought you might enjoy it. http://www.skimountaineer.com/CascadeSki/CascadeWebCams.php

  • Hey Diane: I'm sure you must be fast asleep already. I've been out with friends tonight; just in and about to fall into bed, but will bookmark that link for sure. I drove as far as they'd let us up to Mt. St. Helens the year after it blew - amazing to see huge trees snapped like matchsticks.  I bought home a tiny bottle of  ash that I have on my window ledge in "my" room.  Off to bed now.  Take care all.

  • Good morning (forecast rain hasn't started).  Quiet night.  Annette - hope it was a good evening out!!  Diane - unfortunately links to individual cams didn't work (little boxes with red "x"s), but enjoyed still fine-weather shots of the peaks - and day/night map at bottom of page is also very useful!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • I see the Trucker didn't get his hoped-for journey northwest !  He's going only 360 miles into South Carolina - load this morning his time and deliver at midnight.

    ...correction: North Carolina!...

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Morning All:  Dry and fine here, rain not forecast until this evening.  Wetter forecast for LG though, so those birds will be wet again today.

Wrapping presents for eldests birthday today - (how do you wrap an ironing board, folks? !) he will be 35 on Saturday,  which means I now have to say I was about 7 years old when I had him.

  • Thanks to Diane for interesting new webcam site - all those beautiful snow capped mountains.

  • Interesting capture by Kelly at "Ospreys". The male standing guard over the new egg at Washington DFW. I do not like that fishing net in the nest.

  • Morning all,

What a glorious sunny morning it is. Wall to wall sunshine and to top it all I heard my first cuckoo of the year this morning when I was hanging out the washing (in a manly way of course). Also the two goldfinches seem to be coming back to the feeder every day now. In fact there were 3 there this morning.

Thanks everyone for the overnight chat and links, Not too sure what is planned for today we will see what develops.

Temp at 9.00 am was 13.1c. Forecast high of 18c today.

  • Mornin All.

    Beautiful sunny morning here.

Alan, we still haven't heard a cuckoo yet. In fact, I have never seen one. It is so frustrating to be able to hear them but haven't been able to locate one.

Remember the troubles of little Osprey at Caerlaverock last year, draped in black plastic?

    Osprey chick

The male, AW, seems to have a fixation on black plastic from silage wraps - he brought more in during building and stll continues to bring it while his female is incubating - luckily it has all been blowing away so far, but we don't need another incident of that kind after hatching!

Later - the underlying concern remains the same, but that incident might have been at Wigtown!  The birds are related and last year's Caerlaverock reports came on the Wigtown sight - very confusing!  But this years plastic-fixated bird is definitely the male at Caerlaverock!!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
