Weekly Chat, Sunday April 25, 2010

Hi all: Getting a late start here today. Been busy in the garden all day and now working on getting some of the glue out of the corners of the panes in the French door, so have back to computer.

Previous Weekly Chat's last page included long chatty posts from Lindybird and OG, a link from Djoan to the BOT Barn Owls, which have their first egg, and a colorful greeting from Diane to AQ who's having a birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY AQ!  :-)

  • Hi, Annette. Hope you have a good time with your friends. Haven't been online much. Had a computer issue to resolve (Windows XP doesn't like Internet Explorer 8 very much). And now I'm researching flooring for the house. I think I'm going with engineered hardwood (old house has too much moisture for solid wood). Have a chance to buy hickory for a really good price -- natural light color, beveled edges, medium gloss, smooth finish, made in USA, and Janka hardness rating of 2186 (which is really good). Ok, that was way more than anyone wanted to know. I won't go on.

Sorry I'm not doing specific replies to posts. Must now go wash a mountain of dishes, and must pull more weeds at daylight. Sigh. Everyone have a wonderful Friday!!!

AQ: Please ship that creme brulee to me. Very, very, very tired of this diet. If I keep eating walnuts, veggies, and fruits, I'm going to turn into a flippin' squirrel. Also, I certainly agreed with your comment about defacing books. That's a sacrilege in my opinion. Books should not be banned or damaged, no matter what kind of language they contain. What's wrong with people?

Also, I wanted to say that I enjoyed all of the wonderful swan pics that everyone has posted! Beautiful! Also enjoyed Lindybird's and AQ's flower pics. The hard rains have wiped out a lot of my flowers, but the weeds thrive. Sigh...

  • Hi annette thanks for your message have left you one on your page

  • Oh Aquilareen! My mouth is watering just reaading your description of your birthday meal.  And whta a coincidence that the waiter got another birthday girl at the wrong table!

Yesterday’s "updo" hairdo looked OK but it was just an ordinary French roll, like I used to do myself. Anyway we went out to Lenzerheide my favourite eating place. Had grilled tenderloin of pork, filled with a farce [sic] of chicken and fennel. Sauce of juniper berries, gin and rich cream, topped with crisp pancetta and watercress. With potato roschti and a bundle of vegs (tied with a green bean). Very very yum. Dessert was difficult, which to choose, finally settled for creme brulee, again. It arrived with a flourish and a "Happy Birthday". I’m left stunned as they didn’t know it was my b'day. Then I notice the plate is decorated with "Happy Birthday Mayuri". That’s not my name. Waiter embarrassed, said they had got the wrong table. I wonder if they had time to decorate another plate. I enjoyed the dessert and it adds to my store of dining experiences - one of the better & funnier ones.

  • aquilareen I am going through the posts backwards, obviously not a good idea.  Fortunately this was an NHS appointment so didn't have to pay anyway.   what I did find out though was that my doctor had ticked them off for not calling me back for a check afterwards.  I think so many restrictions on the NHS now and doctors etc really don't have enough time to follow up everything as they should do.  I can't really complain as I have had lots of various treatments/operations etc which have cost nothing and I have generally received first class treatment.

Love the pic of the grevillea, almost looks tropical.

  • Thanks Annette I wish they could freeze my skin cancers off would be a lot less painful.  Although the scar that is left is not that noticeable my forehead now resembles a road map.

  • DjoanS so glad you had a nice day, and I agree Spring is late this year and will be delayed a bit more with the cold weather and rain we are promised.

  • Good mornng Lindybird I have had several wood pigeons fly into my kitchen or conservatory windows leaving their imprint.  As a rule they seem to get away with it, we did have one that had knocked himself silly a little while ago so OH picked him up and put him in an open top box where he eventually recovered and flew off, with a bit of a headache I suspect.
