Keith and Ann closed last month with some lovely chat and osprey news. It is this kind of coverage that we must have if The Gabfest is to be able to continue.
The Gabfest does have a purpose - a reason for being. That purpose is to educate about wildlife in general and ospreys in particular. We do that by following the osprey we care about with pictures and narrative, and by entertaining ourselves with other topics of interest to us. If we are interested others probably will be also. They will thus be drawn to our site where they will get to know the osprey we love.
Pictures are not necessary to make an interesting post. I was hooked before I ever saw a cam simply by reading the entries on The Main Blog. They did not use pictures then. Through the years many Gabbers have added to our thread with simple observations and comments.. The posts of one Gabber in particular are greatly missed. SUGAR'S early morning observations of the Loch Garten nest were a joy to read.
It is to be hoped that we can have many reports, comments and observations this summer, both with and without pictures, as we enjoy the antics of our favorite osprey.
Good afternoon all. Oh poor EJ sitting in the snow :( Gardenbirder I agree with you about Monty and Blue24 and i think he is indeed hedging his bets! The life struggles are immense for wild birds so they need to take advantage of every opportunity that arises! My heart breaks for Blue24 sometimes but that does not change my affection at all for Monty, he can do no wrong in my eyes :)
Willow, I, too, hope that Blue 24 finds a mate eventually. Like Glesni, Blue 24 is strong and still young, so with luck she will have her own nest in the next few years (but I hope not at Dyfi and not with Monty!) But they will do what they will do and we can only watch!
Kind regards, Ann
I might just add though I have seen human behaviour easily outstrip the dastardly behaviour of Monty!Monty always been one of my favorites along with Dai Dots and of course White 14. He has reached Italy now! Hope he passes through Italy quickly as I believe birds get shot there as they do in most Southern Mediteranean countries.
I watch with interest the future of nest B at Rutland will 51(11) try to take it. He tried to last year but the old man saw him off :) He did struggle to keep it
Keith hope you enjoy your stay in the Loire Valley. My sister owns a semi derelict barn near Chinon and 10 years later still a semi derelict barn! They dont get around to doing the work needed! I seem to remember Breagh spent some time near here?
I know you are all wishing White 14 well.
As 58Willow has pointed out he has crossed the Mediterranean and now in Italy.
He entered Italy last year 2015 just south of Rome and headed north leaving Italy on the east coast near San Marino and on to another country Croatia and then a few days rest in Slovenia so he seems to know his route.
This year he is much further west than last near to genoa so he may well cross into Switzerland. This may well be a new country for him for an osprey we think has been in more countries than others we know of.
HASTE YE BACK.
58Willow - I will enjoy the Loire Valley - I can think of worse places to work for the week.
I am doing some work at a plant that bottles liquid gases.
I also will sample their bottled wine.
Some samples of Streetwalking scenes from the Loire area.
Willow, I wondered if the last picture was your sister's barn? :)
