Keith and Ann closed last month with some lovely chat and osprey news. It is this kind of coverage that we must have if The Gabfest is to be able to continue.
The Gabfest does have a purpose - a reason for being. That purpose is to educate about wildlife in general and ospreys in particular. We do that by following the osprey we care about with pictures and narrative, and by entertaining ourselves with other topics of interest to us. If we are interested others probably will be also. They will thus be drawn to our site where they will get to know the osprey we love.
Pictures are not necessary to make an interesting post. I was hooked before I ever saw a cam simply by reading the entries on The Main Blog. They did not use pictures then. Through the years many Gabbers have added to our thread with simple observations and comments.. The posts of one Gabber in particular are greatly missed. SUGAR'S early morning observations of the Loch Garten nest were a joy to read.
It is to be hoped that we can have many reports, comments and observations this summer, both with and without pictures, as we enjoy the antics of our favorite osprey.
Keith said: "These ospreys are not too fussy. And to think a few years back I thought they were faithful birds."
Exactly what I was thinking, Keith. That is what we were told, isn't it? "Ospreys mate for Life"" How sweet! This in spite of EJ's known history at the time. It didn;t take long with a few cams and positive ring ID to find out otherwise. Makes for an interesting story though (if you like Blaze).
I'm still at the library. I think my first action will be to go buy another computer. Then maybe take the old one to the shop to see if it can be fixed. They charge $50 just to diagnose, then maybe tell you they can/t do anything. I am thinking I would like to have a new computer and a second old computer as a backup for various purposes.
I've received losts of suggestions, none of which have helped (Thanks, anyway).
Good news about Glesni and Monty both being back, but I am so disappointed about Dai Dot and Blue 24. I just wish they were settled on their own nest as I had originally thought. But wishes are as useless in the Osprey World as they are in ours.
So while Dyfi nest as been keeping us entertained with their usual shenanigans, what about EJ and Odin? I hope all is proceeding peacefully and lovingly for them like the old married couple that they are..
Keith said "Lmac - I am going down to the Watersports centre this year and hiring a canoe. Susan says she will just stay in the restaurant and have a drink and either wait for me or get the lifeboat service out"
LOL, Keith, Always wise to have good back-up.
Before I leave, I just wanted to say that maybe I should stay away and just read. The input has been terrific since I have been gone.(or disabled, anyway).
Apparently no news today. None on here and I didn't find anything outstanding either on Facebook or on cams as it was already dark in Scotland. Facebook did have a rather distant picture of EJ & Odin this morning on their perch and Dyfi stated that Monty and Glesni are settled contentedly in their nest today. Cam pictures show a pretty sky this evening in the Lerwick - Sumburgh area.
Hi June, reading the daily thread it would seem ej and odin are indeed behaving as normal with only one or two non threatening intruder episodes. Let's hope for a peaceful year and some chicks. Blue24 and blue 5f on the other hand are doing the rounds around Wales looking for mates bothering both the Dyfi and Glaslyn and probably a range other others in between. Seems there are ospreys arriving daily so let's hope Glaslyn male returns soon.
Evening, June. Apparently Glesni's Mum's partner 01(09) has returned to their Rutland nest today and one other Rutland male was seen there today as well, 51(11). The news of him was only posted on the ukospreys website late today, though I imagine those in the know heard about it earlier. Hubby and I saw him after Birdfair a couple of years ago.
Kind regards, Ann
Off to bed now. Good night All.
