March went out like a lion, how will April start?
Well, pretending this was post-midnight when it was actually yesterday evening, April starts a bit ignominiously, actually.

Thanks for the videos, Scylla - I did not see the action at the time. I have the cam running in the background as I love listening to the sounds of Dyfi (and LotL if it's not too windy) and trying to identify what I can hear. Don't get to hear the hoots of Tawny Owls in urban London...
It's usually the sound of the boingy perch that grabs my attention but by the time I bring the screen up, I've missed the action!

It must have been in the 1990's at LG when a (goldeneye from memory) nest box close to the Osprey nest was usurped by a Tawny Owl. For about 3 weeks night shift was a nightmare as we got hour after hour of the Tawny hooting, then alarming, diving at the nest with Olive trying to incubate eggs, then her alarm calling and swooping on the Tawny whenever it landed on the nest. We were quite concerned the eggs might get smashed in the melee. I think perhaps the owl took exception to a large bird nesting in its territory, whilst the Osprey would be well aware that Eagle Owls are quite capable of taking Osprey chicks and was taking no chances with a Tawny. After 3 weeks the Tawny moved home and at the end of the season the nest box was removed.
Some people think Ospreys are a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.
Good Morning. Thanks for all your earlier posts. Thanks also to Scylla for the owl video and Mary for the latest blog news.
An empty nest at the moment.
