Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey), 27 March 2016

HAPPY NEW WEEK and HAPPY EASTER (to those who celebrate the holiday).

Last week's Chat thread is here.

Everyone have a wonderful week.

  • A sunshine and showers day – mostly beautiful to look out on, but not much good for doing outdoor stuff, although I shall need to water seedlings in the greenhouse when the sun has gone down.  J went over the border for a day out in Carlisle, so we took the opportunity to tidy and reduce the spare bedding and other household textiles stored in the top of his bedroom cupboard – some stuff to throw, and some to become new “dustsheets” so OH can dispose of old ones.  Thanks for complimentary remarks re shower room!

Annette – I hope you got to bed earlier last night and woke refreshed today!

Linda – Happy Birthday to your OH – sorry about the golf, but I hope he enjoys his special steak dinner.  I hope he got a good report of Bonnie’s time in kennels; sounds like she is glad to be home.  Nice pics from your holiday – pleased you managed to post them successfully.

Brenda – glad to see you caught up on missed sleep.  Sorry to see the news of Margo’s bad chest; I hope the ABs will soon clear up the infection.

J home now, so will think about tea – he had a main meal out so we had ours (roast veg with balsamic vinegar and Cheshire cheese) at lunchtime, so will just have a bacon sandwich now.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Series of accidents on our motorway and main road caused by freak hailstorms.  We are fine, and no hail here - it was about 15 and 9 miles from us respectively.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Afternoon all:

Lindybird: Re door handles, indeed - quite a shock to get nice looking ones with staying power. Once we made the decision, we used the same ones in the bathrooms and on the hall cupboard too - couldn't face any more choices.  Hope it's not too late to wish your OH a happy b/day.  I get so upset with people on their hand-held phones. Our newest vehicle has the iPhone hands-free hookup, but there's still the potential for distraction. Sounds like Canadian cousin really appreciated all the attention she got while she was in the UK (maybe planning another visit?)  :-) Those Aloe arborescens are all over the place here - in bloom right now too. Amazing plants, succulents.

dibnlib: When I lived in the LA area, the police used to park horribly smashed up vehicles at prominent intersections so everyone would get the message to be careful. They certainly made me think twice.  Oddly enough, litter isn't a big issue here.  Companies/groups get to have a little sign along some of the roads announcing that they take care that section - free advertising.  Some communities have folks who are doing community service do the job.

OG: How very swish and Euro!!!  Very clean lines and so functional too.  I'm fascinated by that toilet tank. Are those shower doors glass or some kind of tough plastic?  Do they sort of concertina-open-and-shut? I think I spy a squeegie lurking in the corner of the shower.  We have the most awful hard water here and are constantly fighting build up on my OH's glass shower door (I opted for an old fashioned shower curtain in mine).

Brenda: Too bad that Margo missed her steak dinner; do hope she can reschedule soon.

Wind has just come up again so I assume no whale count at this point. I bet whale guy Mike is tearing his hair out.

  • Those hailstorms sound bad, OG. I would hope that drivers would pull over. Visibility can be nil in those storms.

Neighbour is having a new kitchen fitted. The fittings arrived in an enormous vehicle and our Close was unaccessible for nearly three hours. We trained the builder, but it seems, no control over delivery of new kitchens to a resident. LOL

  • OG  - heard something about hailstorms, then saw pics on the web -- amazing!

Annette - Thanks for naming the flower.  We have one of those baths which has a large bulge at one end, to allow for more room when standing at the shower end.  The shower has a curved screen which follows the shaping of the bath.  Its made of glass and I've no idea how!

Brenda:  Its quite astonishing how many large boxes it takes to bring an entire kitchen.  But three hours?!

  • More pics:

One of the local pretty windmills, pic taken through the car window!

You can see the wing mirror of the car in this one!  Note the grey skies.....  Lovely stone walls made of the plentiful stones laying everywhere.

I love the remote farms, with the dramatic mountains as backdrop:  they change colour all the time.

  • Very heavy wind today managed to wipe out a very large branch on our Lavatera maritima- right in the middle of the plant. Now it looks decidedly odd - OH got rid of the debris, but I have to organize the rest of the plant tomorrow so it doesn't look so off balance.  Thank heaven it's a fast grower.

Lindybird:  I'm assuming those stone walls are like the dry stone walls in parts of the UK.  Interesting windmill.

OG: Yes, I was in bed before 10 last night and up bright and early this morning. Planning a repeat performance tonight.

    Have a good Wednesday all.

  • We had a very quiet Easter. At least 4 neighbours were away, taking their boats to spots along Murray River.

    .

Poor Margo. I think we were going to enjoy your steak as much as you! I hope you perk up soon. Thank you Brenda for keeping us in touch.

    .

Great bathroom OG. Well worth the wait.

    .

Linda. Thanks for church, quite simple, lovely. Puss has gorgeous colouring..

    .

Revisited Doc this morn, maybe scaphoid fracture, so cat scan tomorrow & back to doc Fri. Doc late but we home in time for OH to go out to lunch. Chat to Dau, told her not to expect me nannying soon. Easter egg hunt went well. She put some eggs in clumps & told kids to take only one. When all over, she pooled eggs & shared them between 3 kids.
