HAPPY NEW WEEK!

Last week's Chat Thread is here.

I posted a long list of replies at the end of last week's thread.

Saturday night in the U.S. and Sunday morning in the U.K. is the New Moon (the dark moon) -- the first one of 2016. See here for a list of monthly astronomical events for this year.

Wow, is it dreary here! So I'm inserting a colourful flower for this week's pic. :-) Everyone have a wonderful week.

  • LINDY    oh dear you have been in the wars. Hope you are all better soon.

  • ANNETTE  we visited friends in Dorset a few years ago and friend said when she goes for a walk locally, people avert their eyes rather than acknowledge a complete stranger. In the woods here everyone says "hello" and as often as not you end up walking with them even if it means walking in the direction you have just come from. I am sure people in Dorset do say "hello" to each other, maybe she has just been unlucky.

  • CLARE   oh dear, that is a big booboo. Mum sending a card to Peacock instead of Partridge pales into insignificance.

HEATHER   I do agree. when I had eye probs recently I went to the pharmacy first. I got eye drops, but she did say to see GP if they didn't help within a few days, hence I did end up at my GP. In Scotland we get free prescriptions (at huge expense to the NHS) and wonder if some people go to their GP first so they do not have to pay for the medication. Free scipts sounds great but we think if you can afford it you should pay, unless you are on long term meds.

  • OG   Great that you are counting down already, and after today it will be 40% down. I had wondered if you would be affected by the strike. So glad you are not.

  • ANNETTE. sorry you ruined such an expensive piece of fish. Love halibut, but generally only have it when we are out for a meal.

  • Morning all:  Lots of coverage of David Bowie's death - and career - on our news last night. As one commentator said, he was constantly reinventing himself so always seemed "of the moment."

Lindybird: Re halibut: Cooked it too hot, too fast and too long.  Was too busy trying to keep OH's veal cutlet from overdoing. :-(

OG: Taking life slowly a brilliant notion; shall try it myself!

Clare: Thanks for the b'day link for Mrs. T.  I love Jacquie Lawson cards.

dibnlib: It's interesting how customs vary. Cities are worst - people seem to avoid eye contact (too many people to interact with?). Here people always greet each other walking even when they don't have a dog, but dogs are the great ice-breaker!

Went out the back gate to pick up newspaper this morning to find two huge fat black cats in our garden. One leapt over the wall when I appeared; the other mewed pitifully and snuck out the back gate. No collars on either. I put some food out but nobody seems to have eaten it...

  • Hello, again, I am back with some replies.  There have been lots of posts the last few days!

AQ – nice to read a positive Nanny-day report from Monday.  Sounds like the twins have a better sleep/play balance now and are less grouchy.  Seems like Miss J is certainly the one to assert herself!

Rosy – sorry about your OH’s diabetes problems, but pleased about the alternative treatment.  How are you, yourself?

Diane – love the description of the survival tool, with whistle – but do please take care to be within earshot of help, just in case.  Sorry your brother’s pancreas has worsened recently.  Stay safe in the snow – I hope you have plenty of supplies in.

Annette – what did you manage to do to the fish?  My guess is you must have overcooked it; halibut can be quite delicate.  (Later - I see that is what happened!)  It might be best not to encourage those two black cats!!!

Linda – I have been preparing my skin against radiation damage since about two weeks ago – using an emollient each night to keep it moisturised (one which is medically approved for if damage does occur).  I hope your OH’s follow up at Macclesfield will be satisfactory – and an easier journey.  J’s annual check at The Christie is next month, and actually falls at half-term, so he won’t need time off work.  He will travel down on the Thursday and stay over for the Friday appointment.

Claire (Mrs T) – Happy Birthday!

Clare – thanks for the tip-off!

Has anyone heard anything from Rita?  I was wondering whether she has returned home to have the planned surgery at Raigmore, or whether she has had it down south, as she did with her knee.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Diane, you are well prepared then. I had visions of one of your feathered friends

alerting someone if you became incapacitated!

Sorry to read about your brother. Has he been diabetic for long?

Lindy, I am a volunteer in a local charity shop. (I dislike that word, it sounds so last century.) Thrift shop sounds better. We get a lot of pairs of very glamorous shoes, which I presume were bought for the same reason as yours were. People do buy them sometimes  though, no doubt for once only use, for a special occasion.

I don't know if we get them back again. We probably do some times.

I have 'ugly sister' feet, so no good for me. I am the one in 'sensible shoes' Lovely!

  • OG    Hope all went well today.    Rita is away at the mo, due back this midweek. As far as I know she is having the op at Raigmore, but no definite date before she went away.
