HAPPY NEW WEEK!
Last week's Chat Thread is here.
I posted a long list of replies at the end of last week's thread.
Saturday night in the U.S. and Sunday morning in the U.K. is the New Moon (the dark moon) -- the first one of 2016. See here for a list of monthly astronomical events for this year.
Wow, is it dreary here! So I'm inserting a colourful flower for this week's pic. :-) Everyone have a wonderful week.

Hello Everyone,
Very busy on here today. I have been rather occupied recently with OH's hospital appointments.
Despite our best efforts at dietary control and medication (no puds and very limited alcohol) OH's blood sugar has been rising. The GP had prepared him to start on insulin, which he was not looking forward to.
The good news is that the Diabetic consultant has prescribed a new oral medication that he could try, instead. Great that there are new treatments becoming available for all sorts of conditions (thinking of Margo here)
Thank you for starting the week, Diane. Beautiful rose picture. I look forward to your stories about your bird and other wildlife encounters. I join the others in asking you to carry your phone in case you fall and hurt yourself. Anyone can trip.
I love your bird pics, Clare. I also think gulls are beautiful birds. I think we see so many of them, that some of us do not appreciate how attractive they are.
Sorry you still enduring high temperatures AQ. I agree about the short days being preferable for starting kindergarten, but small children are very adaptable.
Glad you are getting some of the wet stuff, Annette. I think that some folks over here have quite enough of it , though.
Enjoyed all the other posts. Glad you are coping well with your hospital visits and treatment OG.
Best thoughts to Margo.
No worries, folks. If I fell near my house, there are people who would hear me yell. My neighbors would hear me, and there's a small recycling company across the creek where the men would hear me. If I go into the deep woods here or in the state park forest, I take my phone.
Also, Annette, I always carry a little survival tool in my pocket. It does have a loud emergency whistle, along with an LED light, a compass, a mirror, a magnifying glass, a thermometer, and a compartment for matches and medication. I bought it for the compass because I have no sense of direction, and I tend to get lost on the rural roads. LOL!!!
Rosy: I hope your OH does well on the new oral medication. I'm sorry he's had such a rough time. My brother is beginning insulin (by injection) this week. His pancreas is no longer functioning.
AQ: Snow here tonight and I'm sending it you! Get ready!
Lindy: I hope your toe heals quickly!
I know what you mean about your OH watching shows over and over. When my Mom was critically ill, she wanted to watch only The Andy Griffith Show -- continuously. (I don't know if you all saw that series in the U.K.). I watched every single Andy Griffith episode countless times, and I know all the dialogue from every one of them!
OG: Those pesky fishing nets and gear are such a problem for whales - nasty stuff!
AQ: Have not seen Tour Down Under, but the article did show Victor Harbor - and lots of vineyards. I only seem to nap in the summer in my zero-gravity chair, but have been known to putter around in the wee hours. Oooh - a nice long nap for the twins and really brilliant to have Miss 4 called into service - but will be interesting to see how Miss 4 copes with Little Miss Bossy in another year or two!
Rosy: Good to see you and good luck with OH's new oral meds! How are you though?
Diane: Well, let's hope your neighbors are home and the recycling company isn't closed when you topple into the ditch! :-) Seriously, why am I not surprised that someone as handy as you has a survival tool in her pocket! I was amazed to find my iPhone has not only a compass but a level, presumably in the event I am called upon to suddenly do some construction work.
Managed to ruin a perfectly decent piece of halibut tonight (OH had something else). Must pay attention next time....

Good Morning All. Very wet here again: my OH got up as usual but soon decided not to try playing golf without webbed feet.
Rosy - Worrying about your OH, but it sounds good that there may be a solution with an oral treatment. Hope all goes well.
AQ - Love your descriptions of your nanny days. The girls really are what we used to call "double trouble"!! When Amber was here, she had decided to start feeding herself, but refuses all tools such as spoons, so she just gets a fistful of whatever it is, whether bread or yogurt [!!] and stuffs it in. Needless to say, a lot misses the target and she needs her hair washed most days.
Diane - impressed by your handy tool. Don't, as others have said, fall down a hole!!
Annette - What did you do to the halibut? Set fire to it? :-) I love a bit of fish.
OG - Hope your journey continues to go well. Good that you're not always tired afterwards. We were warned to put plenty of soothing cream on the spot as this can be like sunburn for some, but my OH apparently has skin like a rhinoceros so no need for after care. He had an appointment at The Christie shortly, as a follow up, but has received a letter saying that this kind of appointment is now being changed to local hospital care, so he is going to Macclesfield Outpatients instead.
Have a good day, everyone!
Just been back to see OGs clip of the whale rescue. Good to have happy endings sometimes.
Annette - No shoes to the Charity shop, but I did give my Wedding Shoes to sis in law recently, as I'll never wear them again, it made me shudder just to look at them! I love a lot of the old films - must watch Far from the Madding Crowd again, soon. We started watching a DVD of the newish film The Life of Pi at the weekend, but when it began, there were a lot of animals in it, which got Bonnie interested, so we had to switch off!!

Morning, all! It's a beautiful, sunny morning here and I'm getting the washing out.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Diane - just watched some of The Andy Griffith Show! We never had that here, I think. Loved the bit where he put the gun down the back of his pants, LOL!!
Clare - they were instruments of torture! I'm not used to high heels much these days, but for some reason these seemed to be hard on the toes, even when there weren't any toes in the shoes, if you know what I mean!! Next day, I was numb for most of the day in one foot!
