Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey), 10 January 2016

HAPPY NEW WEEK!

Last week's Chat Thread is here.

I posted a long list of replies at the end of last week's thread.

Saturday night in the U.S. and Sunday morning in the U.K. is the New Moon (the dark moon) -- the first one of 2016. See here for a list of monthly astronomical events for this year.

Wow, is it dreary here! So I'm inserting a colourful flower for this week's pic. :-) Everyone have a wonderful week.

  • Heather, Margo wants to reassure everyone that she still feels able and is determined to plan ahead, eg.  Joe Brown.  Obviously she has good and bad days. She feels that she has nothing to write about, as she is mostly confined to the house. She doesn't want to just write about her illness. She does worry that she sounds miserable, when she reports on her results.  She considers you all to be good friends. I am sure that by the end of next week, she will be feeling fine and will post.  Feeling so tired does make her frustrated and annoyed with herself., which I am sure, we all understand.  X

  • Evening all:  Daughter home, granddaughter has been - and gone. A quick visit, but better than none.  Giving advice about taking on dogs is one thing - having your advice on choosing husbands ignored is quite another!  :-)

OG: G/daughter's flight arrived safely and a friend picked her up and drove her home (much faster than the shuttle).  I tracked her flight on Flightradar24.com (well, we have to keep an eye on them don't we?) and she got in 15 minutes ahead of schedule. Always good to know our kids are safe and tucked in.  Can't imagine seeing 500 of anything flying overhead, what a fab sight that must've been.

AQ: LA Times Sunday Travel section's main story was devoted to the Fleurieu Peninsula. Looks lovely. Have you been there?  Fingers crossed grandson2's basement is dry. Sounds like a lot of changes coming up for the family.

Clare: Just took a look at Felixstowe Ferry (street level) on Google Earth. It looks peaceful and pretty.

    dinblib: Dogs are great ice-breakers.

Brenda:  Smiled to read that Margo's transfusion team will ensure she gets to Joe Brown concert. That's a medical team that's really got their priorities straight. :-)

Rained here again today - steady and slow, with more to come. Yay!

    Take care all.

  • Good morning, all.  It's quite wet and windy here today - I'm so glad I made it out with my camera yesterday!

I've just learned that the fantastic David Bowie is dead at the age of 69.  RIP, David - what a fantastic musician you were, and I still have a huge soft spot for the Laughing Gnome!

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

Diane, I enjoyed reading about your crow - seems it recognises you.  Have you fed it before?  There's a crow at our local supermarket who recognises Limpy and caws at him for that reason.  Do you have any photos of your raven pair?

Clare: I don't think I'd ever seen that crow before. My big supermarket is a 30-minute drive from my house. The crow probably cleans up food scraps that people drop in the car park, though. There's a sandwich shop inside the supermarket. I regret that I don't have any photos of the ravens. I don't have a camera, anymore. There's a cheap camera in my phone, but I never carry my phone when I'm outdoors. My patch is rugged, with lots of brush, vines, mole mounds, snake holes.... I'm always afraid that I'll trip and break my phone. LOL!

Can't believe Bowie was that old!!!

OG: Glad your grandsons are okay.

Hi, everyone. Very cold here tonight: 7 F or -13.8 C. The "feels like" temp is -4 F or -20 C. Brrr.

  • Good Morning.  Lots on the News about David Bowie - he was certainly a one-off, and influenced a lot of people. I used to get annoyed if The Laughing Gnome was played on the radio too often, though, it was a bit of an ear worm!!  I was sad to hear at the weekend that we'd lost DJ Ed 'Stewpot' Stewart, too.

Diane - Sorry you're getting so cold already.

Annette - Always worrying when loved ones are travelling, and nice to know they're back in the fold.

Brenda - Thanks for further news of Margo.

  • OG - I'm glad to hear that you had a 'gentle day'. Do try to pace yourself. Wish I could have seen all those Barnacle Geese at once, it must have been memorable.

Clare - I'm just going back to look at your and Limpy's pics,as I noticed them last night but was too tired to take them in.

Lynette - Nice to hear from you.

  • Clare - I thought it was only me who thought of weird things when hearing about a cockapoo!!  (Which my tablet keeps changing to cockatoo, of course......)

  • Good morning; some decent weather expected today, but quite chilly (although nothing like Diane’s temperature lows!)

Heather – I think we all get quite confused about Margo’s state of health, as I am sure she must be herself, when the news varies so much, due to the nature of the condition and the available treatments.  All we can do is be here when she feels like chatting and be thinking/praying in between her good days and weeks.

Lynette – those Geese were indeed a lovely sight, even in the fading light – and such a noise level too, as they call all the time to keep the flock together, and their family groups within the flock!  It was I who suggested OH should not try to be painting the bathroom while we were all three in the house over the festive break, but of course his time is now limited by driving me to Carlisle and back every day, and trying to help in other ways.  Burns Night is actually Monday 25th, but we are attending events on Saturday 23rd and February 6th!

Annette – pleased to see that all journeys were completed safely; also good that you had some gentle rain!

Clare – I was also much saddened by the death of David Bowie – not just a great and innovative musician, but a good actor too.

Diane – I would have thought that all the trip hazards would be a sensible reason to have you phone to hand when you are outside, in case you need to call for help!

Linda – I really am taking care of myself, but I think I shall give up trying to go to bed early, it causes too much hassle and makes me more tired, when I get woken up and then can’t get back to sleep!  Trouble is, I have never been someone who can nap in the daytime!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Good Morning Everyone. Still raining here and very dark. Supposed to get dry later this morning.

I was also sorry to hear about David Bowie. Just watched a video from his latest album. It looks quite horrendous, knowing that he has just died. I couldn't quite grasp what it it is about, as the discussion was carrying on over the music.

    Clare, Lovely photographs. Thank you.

Limpy, The page you started is brilliant. Fantastic photographs from the contributors.

Diane, Like OG I do worry that you wander around your grounds without your phone. I can understand your reasoning for not carrying a phone, but what if you have a fall and need help.

Annette, Pleased that the family have arrived safely at their homes. I also watch an App. to follow the children's flights, but then wait for a text, for them to confirm their arrival.

OG, I don't usually nap during the day, but I do find I nod off in the evening sometimes, when watching TV. Maybe that says more about what is on the TV.

Playing bowls this afternoon. When this rain stops, I must find a dry moment to take the car to be cleaned, inside and out. It is so dirty.

I would completely agree with that.  I find there's almost nothing I want to watch.
