HAPPY NEW WEEK!

Last week's Chat Thread is here.

I posted a long list of replies at the end of last week's thread.

Saturday night in the U.S. and Sunday morning in the U.K. is the New Moon (the dark moon) -- the first one of 2016. See here for a list of monthly astronomical events for this year.

Wow, is it dreary here! So I'm inserting a colourful flower for this week's pic. :-) Everyone have a wonderful week.

  • Brenda this " don't get a dog advice" fell on deaf ears with youngest .

Daisy has now been here for 3 years and 9 months which was actually supposed to be a 2 month respite for her to sort her life out.

Love her to bits but I never ever felt the need for a dog as they are full time commitment. Now we have found a superb kennel it's a lot easier.

I must declare I was always a cat person and as you probably know flew our last 2 up on British Airways.

  • Brenda - I see that the dog is causing problems already. We have young relatives who gave in to their daughters pleas for a dog of their own - but both parents are working and the young dog is now very confused as he goes to different houses on three or four days of the week :-(

  • LOL I have started something. I don't see us getting another dog. Penny was always fine with Doggy Day Care. She became fond of the man who picked her up each morning and brought her home each afternoon. I hope Ruby will feel the same. She will learn behaviour and how to socialise with other dogs and she won't be going to other people. We will be going to London and staying there, so the pup will be in her own home. Daughter's partner's parent's will have to take a turn if both daughter and her partner have to work the weekend at the same time. Doggy Day Care will keep her overnight and at weekends / holidays, when Ruby is older. It is very expensive and I don't agree that the pup should be going there at such a young age, but I have to admit that Penny is a very well behaved and loving dog. She went at the same age as Ruby.  Ruby is already booked for training lessons, so we will see what happens.

  • I spoke to Margo earlier. She is obviously very tired, but was cheerful. as she  waits for her rejuvenating transfusion. As you would expect of Margo, she is very knowledgeable about her illness and her treatment. It is over four years since it was first mentioned to her. She has a fantastic hospital team, who have covered all scenarios to herself and her OH. She will be going to see Joe Brown. If she feels she needs a transfusion, she only has to ring the Team and they will take the blood tests and arrange the transfusion.

  • Thanks, Diane, for your long post on the old week and for starting the new one.

Annette – so good that you had Grandson there at Daughter’s to help you – he really has turned into a thoughtful young gentleman!  I hope D and GD have nearly reached D’s house by now, and that GD gets a good flight home.  So agree with what you said about couples needing to consider downward adjustment to lifestyle to accommodate children – I feel sorry for those who can’t, but I remember having to count every penny, do without a social life etc to put them first.

AQ – best laid plans … but you couldn’t really heat up a salad to please OH!

Brenda – so frustrating that Daughter didn’t heed advice and warnings!  Poor puppy will grow up not knowing to whom it belongs, not to mention being unfair to you, expecting you to puppy-sit!  Pleased to see that the clinical team will make sure Margo gets to the Joe Brown gig.

Forgot to mention last evening: as we arrived home, about 500 Barnacle Geese flew over, from the grazing fields to their shore roosts, followed by about the same number again; OH heard them returning to the fields this morning.

Phoned Daughter#2 last evening; she still has another week off!  Grandson#2 is still staying with her and partner since just before Christmas, and working from there (he normally works at home).  He is about to return to Aberdeen, hoping his basement isn’t flooded.  I talked to him too, and he told me his likely options for work and home after his girlfriend graduates this summer.  Grandson#1 was unable to get home to Huntly from work in Aberdeen during the week, but made it for the weekend.  Other Dau’s OH is recovering better now, and thinking about a new work contract; I hope it won’t be in London this time.

I had a gentle day today, getting through some filing – decided to “weed-out” my health records and reduced three folders to two.  I did make Sunday dinner, but persuaded OH to organise tea!  He finished the woodwork in the shower room this morning, so only has the walls to paint now, whenever he has a spare hour or few.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

Was your gull shot at Felixstowe too?

Felixstowe Ferry.  It's a little fishing hamlet just to the north of Felixstowe, though you have to go through Felixstowe to get to it.  It's a lovely place.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

Met a lovely couple when out dog walking the other day. They had a lovely cockapoo called Wendy.

I realise you're probably talking about a dog who's a mixture of cocker spaniel and poodle but I have to confess I keep laughing whenever I see the word cockapoo!  It paints a different picture in my mind.

  • Sorry if It seemed that I thought MARGO wasn't fully aware about her illness. She just seemed so down on her last post and I was trying to reassure her.

One can only respond to what one reads....

  • Hello everyone, thanks Diane for starting us off and for the rose to cheer us up on damp , dull, days. Its been relatively dry here today but has gone chilly, more like winter, hurrah.

Brenday - thanks for the info re Margo. Will keep her in mind and hope the transfusion helps - so reassuring when there is a good backup team at the hospital.

Clare, Limpy, will look at pics after reading all posts.

  • OG - that must have been a site - 500 barnacle geese going over. Do hope that shower room won't be long in finishing for you.

Back later in the week to catch up - not a lot to say except that on the 22nd Jan we are having a Burns Night at the village hall in Moulton organised by members of the church. Has to be then as BN falls on a Sunday.
