Hallo all:
Hello All - No fog here - Beautiful blue skies for the last few days, so I have spent a lot of time in the garden yesterday and today, a lot of tidying up work. Saturday I had a cactus club meeting, slide show and talk on succulents of the Canary Islands.
Heather - So sorry to hear of your middle daughters neck trouble, how did she manage to do that? I have suffered with neck pain on and off in the past and know how awful it can be, I hope she improves quite soon.
Wendy - You sound as if you had a really interesting trip, I also would like to see the Kelpies at night. I expect Daisy will be very happy to see you again and get back to home comforts.
Clare - I am glad things are getting sorted out now, how nice the care home sounds putting on refreshments for you after the service.
I am looking forward to Autumnwatch soon so will go now and finish one or two jobs.
RITA- don't know what happened to daughter, it just appeared suddenly. Her GP said that her neck and shoulder muscles felt very tense. Suggested stress might be the cause.
WENDY- I have never had a dog but should think it would be a tie. My brother has taken on his son's husky and is just realising what a commitment it is. And yes, finding the right kennels.....
Good evening. What a grey day – fog did clear quite well around middle of the day, but returned late afternoon and was really thick on the highest part of our road home (having had a wee snack and done some top-up shopping). Hospital assessments went well – all nursing measurements satisfactory (apart from the usual weight), BP well enough controlled, bloods, ECG, X-rays all okay. Consultant Anaesthetist was a lovely man – we discussed Ospreys! He is telling the surgeon he is happy for me to be anaesthetised in the normal way, but I must be monitored overnight following surgery, so I shall be admitted as a 23 hour case on the day of the op and then “sleep” the one night. I am happy for that. And hope to get my date very soon.
Bathroom will resume tomorrow – just the carpenter to fit cabinets. OH will be going to the dentist, but I don’t mind being left with the carpenter! OH got his flu jab this morning, so that’s the three of us now prepared for winter.
Clare – I have known several care homes organise a funeral tea. I think that, when the staff have been looking after the deceased for a while, they need to be a part of the funeral, even if they can’t attend formally, as they need closure as much as anyone else.
Brenda – surely your Son hasn’t already forgotten how cold the UK can be in winter? I hope they have some warm clothing stored somewhere handy. I hope you had a good match this afternoon.
Heather – sorry about Alison’s neck pain; probably is stress, although I remember my now-retired GP suggesting that it “comes out in sympathy” with everything else because it is in between head and body and everything passes through it!
Wendy – pleased you had such a good weekend. Daughter and Partner saw Spectre on Saturday, and thought it was rather slow-moving for a Bond film; J also saw it and didn’t seem at all disappointed in it. We have driven past the Kelpies many times, during construction and since, and intend an extended visit next year to them and the Helix, which I believe now has all the promised facilities. I am sure Daisy will be very joyful to be home!
Rita – sounds like you are getting very much back to normal with the garden and cactus club – well done. We recorded AutumnWatch and will watch during a daytime rest. We did consider trying to get down to Caerlaverock, but it seems parking will be very difficult with all the BBC vans and paraphernalia.
Thinking of George – haven’t seen a post for a long time – and Margo and Lynette. And good wishes to all.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
OG - so glad to hear that all went well at your hospital appointment this morning, I expect you want to get the date for your op. as soon as possible now.
Yes, I am getting back to normal now, everything seemed to get better about the twelve week mark, it is sixteen weeks now since my op. It still gets very stiff if I sit for too long and I still do lots of exercises to try and get the knee to bend back even further. When I went to Rosemarkie last Friday I walked further than usual and was very pleased as both knees felt exactly the same, no difference between them at all, in fact for the first time I did'nt think about my knee at all!
Congrats Rita, you are doing well. And better to come!
Evening all: Lovely gray clouds with tiny showers here and there, but they did get some snow in the Sierra Nevadas.
OG: Yogurt and Mayo combo works for me! Back in the 70s (I think) we had a period when speed limits and mileage indicators were posted in Kms and Miles. Then for some reason they decided to stick with miles....I've often wondered how much they spent on all those signs....
Clare: How nice that the care home folks are hosting an after-service gathering.
Brenda: Did your son leave his winter clothes at your house? It took me years to adjust to warm California temps to the point where I had to wear "winter" clothes to be warm.
Heather: Any other family members liable to injure themselves? Maybe you can bring your Madeira trip forward a week so you can at least be out of the country! :-) Seriously, not good to hear that stress may be causing daughter's neck issues
WendyB: Welcome home! Does sound like a nice trip.
Rita: You probably know more about various succulents and cactii than most people I know here. Wonderful that your knee is doing so well! Good for you.
OG: Your medical team sounds on the ball. Any news on the radiotherapy location yet? When do you think the bathroom will be completed?
AQ: Hope nanny duty isn't too wearing.
Hope all lurkers are doing okay. Have a good Tuesday all.
More fog, and OH away up the hill to dentist. Carpenter here - he is also disappointed at plasterer's finish and I think he's going to rub down the parts which we shall be painting. I have just counted up the CHR cards done and only need to make about twelve more, so shall probably get them finished today or tomorrow.
Thanks, RITA - yes I shall be pleased to get my date, since I had thought I was getting told last week. Looks like radiotherapy will be interrupted by the winter bank hols - that happened to J years ago with spring hols when Easter prolonged his six weeks through to the end of May and caught that bank hol too - but he came through none the worse for it!
ANNETTE - I guess the high snow will do more for the reservoirs than the tiny showers will, so wishing more of it! Radiotherapy not being mentioned now, so will just push for my choice when the time comes! As to end of the bathroom, 'tis still a case of "watch this space" - looks like next week some time, and then OH needs decorating time after that. Just not worrying about it.
Just been consulted about height of mirror cabinets - hope I decided high enough for the boys!
Op Thursday - almost got time to pack! So shower room will be delayed by two more days!
OG - So happy that you have got a date for surgery. The boys will just have to continue using your wet room! I saw your post of last night, this morning. if you know what I mean. I apparently fell asleep with Kindle Fire in my hands, according to OH. Then by 2 am I'm wide awake!!!
Hope there is room in the operating theatre for all of us :-)
