We had zero chicks at Loch Garten nest this summer, so there are none to follow this winter. EJ and Odin have migrated south and with neither tagged we cannot follow them. Sadly, we have lost Breagha, the last tagged LG offspring. Once again a healthy Loch Garten chick is “lost contact, presumed dead”. Even the camera is away for the winter. Thus we have lost all contact with the Loch Garten nest. For the first time since I found EJ and the Loch Garten nest, there is NOTHING LEFT. Nothing left, that is, except HOPE for a better season in 1916.
On this note of hope I will maintain The Gabfest in a semi-retired state. Thus we will be open for any osprey news which comes through, whether it be from UK or USA or Africa. Also any bird or wildlife photos or news are always appreciated here.
Over Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Eve some may wish to share photos of their cakes, Christmas Trees and/or some music videos. Winter gardening, trains, anything goes here on the Gabfest that anyone wants to talk about.
So if anyone cares to come in for a wee chat, the Gabfest may be sleeping, but it is open.
Good evening all. I did see a program some time ago about the reintroduction of the lynx into Scotland by Roy Dennis.I think ideally it would be good but also I would hate it when sometime later they are persecuted for killing sheep (as possibly believed by some farmers) This has happened to beavers now considered a pest by some.
June did you get your pumpkin yet? The pumpkin farm where I wanted to go seems to have closed down and have never been before and always have bought from a supermarket, just wanted to pick my own this year.
Heres some last flowers in the garden
MONTY - GLESNI - DAI DOT and MATE be on the look out.
PINE MARTINS INTRODUCED TO MID WALES
Looks like White 14 is heading home to the south coast of Bioko. I do hope so as the river there (Rio Moaba)flowing down from Moca never dries up. Just 50 meters from the sea it flows into a small lake about 150 meters x 150 meters where the fish all gather - I could pick them out myself (an osprey supermarket). He spent much of his time here when I explored the area in March 2014. He evaded me this year March 2015 as he went on a trip to Nigeria the day I went down to see him.
He has now reached Togo and just a hop to Benin and Nigeria and a flight over the Gulf of Guinea and he is home for winter.
58Willow - I hope my last flowers are still around when I get home from Skopje. My wife told me it is lovely weather by day but now nearing zero temperatures on a night.
Yesterday evening I went to the supermarket and received some coinage change and on the 5 Denar Macedonian Coin is the Balkands Lynx. Strange we were just talking about these the day before. The Lynx is considered a National Symbol in The Republic of Macedonia.
OOH, I had a wee shock when you said zero, then I remembered that in your language that is just freezing (32F). Pretty much the same here.
I have enjoyed the lynx conversation very much. And what a lucky coincident that you receive this coin at this particular time. The picture is icing on the cake.

From the article: "Natalie Buttriss, the trust's chief executive, said: "My team of mammal conservationists has been working tirelessly over the last two years to make this happen." Hmmmm, I wonder if they have been working with the people who are working to bring ospreys back to Wales?
Hope White 14 is there to greet you when you get to Bioko this year.
SheilaFe, no "sorrys" were called for. A live link is always better than an inactive one and as I said, I appreciated having it. Also finally had time to view your film link and enjoyed it very much.
