We had zero chicks at Loch Garten nest this summer, so there are none to follow this winter. EJ and Odin have migrated south and with neither tagged we cannot follow them. Sadly, we have lost Breagha, the last tagged LG offspring. Once again a healthy Loch Garten chick is “lost contact, presumed dead”. Even the camera is away for the winter. Thus we have lost all contact with the Loch Garten nest. For the first time since I found EJ and the Loch Garten nest, there is NOTHING LEFT. Nothing left, that is, except HOPE for a better season in 1916.
On this note of hope I will maintain The Gabfest in a semi-retired state. Thus we will be open for any osprey news which comes through, whether it be from UK or USA or Africa. Also any bird or wildlife photos or news are always appreciated here.
Over Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Eve some may wish to share photos of their cakes, Christmas Trees and/or some music videos. Winter gardening, trains, anything goes here on the Gabfest that anyone wants to talk about.
So if anyone cares to come in for a wee chat, the Gabfest may be sleeping, but it is open.
Good afternoon June and all. Thankyou for the link to the very sad news of 7H. So upset about her as was looking forward to her return next year, as Tiger said in his reply to Jaydee she was a superstar! Even though we have to accept that this is how it is for young birds does not make it easier to bear :(
Still June very uplifting post above about the success of ospreys!
"Everybody loves a baby"
From an email
Not as beautiful, but still my favorite.
Good evening all. June thankyou for brightening up the day with those lovely pics of babies! I agree with you penguins are also my favorite. There was a fabulous programme some time ago called "spy in the huddle" where they made models of penguyins concealing cameras, it was brilliant. I dont know if you could get it there? Very worth watching :)
We have very thick fog here and driving to work was a nightmare just had to follow the cats eyes in the road. Horrible.
Our bird feeders have become very busy lately as the colder weather starts although still very warm during the day. About five days ago now we saw a very large party of swallows, some swirling around our ash trees picking up some snacks for their journey! I thought they were very late departing as our ones left ages ago! :)
Good afternoon/evening ALL.
Willow, "cats eyes in the road" - Is that implanted lights or what? I don't know that term here. I've done driving like you describe. My husband would call it a white knuckle trip.
Fortunately it seems to be nice at Loch Garten today according to the above photo from facebook.
Have yall ordered your Dyfi calendars yet? I understand they are going fast. Ordering from here is a wee bit more trouble, so think I'll pass.
