HAPPY NEW WEEK!

Last week's Chat thread is here.

Anyone can watch the partial solar eclipse here

  • Diane: That was a huge earthquake, with lots of "smaller" ones measuring 6+ and even 7. Geez. I gather there's an advisory (the mid-level threat) for a narrow area north of us about one foot at about 5 in the morning. I check the USGS web site every day and keep wondering when it will be our turn. No photos yet - assume we'll see them when CNN is done with the debate.

  • Annette: Yup, I just checked and saw your advisory and also the small craft warnings. Glad you'll be okay, dearie. That quake was massive. My thoughts are with everyone who'll be affected in the danger zones.

CNN online was giving bulletins at the top of the screen during the debate.

  • AQ: Just had a look at that area west of Bangor on Google Street View. Some of the images were taken in May 09 and show lovely green  trees (that would be Fall then, right?) Another stretch was shot in December 14 and shows lots of burned trees. Are there areas down there as heavily forested with firs, etc. as, say Washington State and the California Sierras, currently ablaze?  Sounds like a nice trip; assume we'll see photos at some point?

  • Diane: Actually, that advisory is for our area - it says San Onofre (nuclear power plant) and I got that mixed up with Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant (north of us). I check the USGS for earthquakes and NOAA's National Tsunami Warning Center for the other. Are you surviving the debate? :-)

  • Annette - Yes, May is Autumn. (We don't have Fall, as most Aussie trees are evergreen.) Last year a huge bushfire burnt for over a month around Germein Gorge, Wirrabara Forest, etc. Some of those views on Google would have been before, some after, depending on the little yellow man updates. The fire burnt 35,000 hectares, few houses & sheds, >700 livestock lost. The govt has decided not to replace the commercial plantings of Wirrabara Forest – another industry lost as there is only 4-years worth of timber left. Sorry Annette I am unable to post pics since the last Downgrade.

I have had a lazy day. OH is on nanny duty. I spent the morning “playing” with photos and emerged at lunchtime intending to make pasties for the freezer. Oh dear, no mince in fridge. In fact I forgot to buy the mince yesterday. There are endless arguments here whether “real” pasties contain meat. Well, mine do, ‘cos then it’s a meal in one, meat & veg together. Ho hum, another day. I shall have to rummage in freezer for something quick for tomorrow’s tea, something easy for OH to heat, as I have Friday nanny duty.

  • AQ: Glad you had a lazy day. Can't remember whether (Cornish) pasties had meat or not.  Hope Friday with kiddies is good.  Maybe you can link us to that site you usually use.

  • Morning all

Yes,ANNETTE, traditional Cornish pasties have beef, onions, potatoes and to be really correct, swede. When we were in Cornwall last year the pasty shops (of which there are many) had several different types including a curry chicken one if I remember correctly.

I heard about the warning for Southern California and naturally thought about you.

LINDY- hope all goes well at the hairdresser today.

Back later. Need a caffeine fix

  • Good Morning, All.   Glad to hear that Annette is OK in the drama which is ensuing in her part of the world. Shocking.

Nice to hear that AQ is having some quiet "Me" time....

I have Friend arriving in half an hour for a quick gossip, before I go out to collect my eye cream.  Then off to the Hairdressers (again!). Have just painted my toenails, not helped much by Bonnie who was trying to lick my toes when I put them up on a chair!!

  • Back yesterday evening after a good few days away.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Welcome home OG and EE! Hope there weren't too many crops waiting to be picked.
