HAPPY NEW WEEK!
Last week's chat thread is HERE.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week, especially OG and Eagle-Eye, who are on holiday.
I had a wondrous experience on Thursday. Temps had cooled a bit, and it was very windy. I went outdoors, just to check my patch. I saw R. T. Hawk come from the direction of the creek flood plain. He was riding the thermals and soaring around and around. If a bird can look happy, he did.
Shortly, his big pale mate came from the same direction. She, too, was floating gracefully on the thermals. She saw me and stared at me for a minute or so, then she started soaring downward, floating in circles in my direction. She kept watching me and moving closer. I froze and made sure she could see my open hands (so she'd be reassured that I didn't have a gun).
She descended quite close to me, and I thought for a moment that she was going to come to me. I thought about holding my arm out to see whether she'd land, but I was afraid I'd scare her. She never screeched at me, and she wasn't diving aggressively -- just floating above me and looking at me curiously. Finally, she caught a thermal and lifted back up into the sky.
R. T. Hawk had been unconcerned, and he was soaring over the creek. His mate followed in his direction, and then they flew toward the ridge together.
I was very honored to see her so close.

The annual Perseid meteor shower will appear on 11-14 August. The waning crescent moon guarantees dark skies, so the meteors should be dramatic. Folks in the northern hemisphere should see 50 meteors per hour, with a third of that number in the southern hemisphere. Most of the meteors can be viewed in the wee hours before dawn, but you could get lucky and see a beautiful earthgrazer in the earlier part of the night. Info HERE.

Yes, Clare, I came on here for a moan about my loss. I have a lot of things which were my Mums, (see last part of my last post!) but for some reason as I remember her wearing the bracelet often herself, it means a lot to me.
Good morning everyone
LINDY- I can imagine your excitement when you discovered the long lost bracelet! It is hard enough to lose something but worse,as you say, when it has such meaning for you.
ANNETTE- the programme focused more on the effect of water shortage on the farming communities than on specific crops. There was an interview with an almond grower who was making a lot of money because he had thought ahead a while back and invested in deeper wells. There was some discussion about these very deep wells because of the fear that the water they provide might never be replenished. I must admit that I hadn't realised - thought through- the impact so much land being left fallow would have on the unemployment statistics. There was an interview with a peach grower who is experimenting with giving tree crops less water, resulting in slightly smaller fruits. But the shopping public are not so keen on buying the smaller ones....
Good Morning Everyone. A cloudy morning here but still dry.
Diane, I was happy to read that your brother will live nearer to you, but what an unfortunate decision about the bridge, which makes his journey to work such a headache now.
Clare I have seen recommendations, from some 'posters', for where you stayed. Brilliant that you were able to get accommodation there. I haven't seen the new obs yet, so we really must make a visit, as it seems fantastic. Sorry about the weather, but good to hear that you enjoyed yourselves so much.
Linda, i am so pleased that you found your bracelet, after all this time. It was in one of those safe places, which we forget about :-))
Heather, Our hedge trimmer blew up so Neighbour told my OH to use his. When my OH went to return it, the neighbour asked him to store it, as he is clearing out his garage. I hope he remembers it is in our garage, next time he needs it. LOL
Brenda: Cloudy here, too. We had a little drizzle but it dried up enough for my OH to mow the lawn and trim the hedge - with the hedge trimmer, LOL!!
I keep looking at the bracelet in disbelief, as I had mourned its loss for so long, after the usual frantic search you have when things disappear. I had bought myself a stainless steel replacement, which is smart and very practical (I am a convert to stainless steel jewellery, it doesn't tarnish) but of course it has no sentimental value and I would just be annoyed if it went missing.
The new, higher babygate has just arrived, to keep Bonnie into the diningroom/conservatory area! We can't wait to put it up!
Had a good ten minutes sitting in front of the pc, trying to remember the site we used to use to buy things locally - I thought "Greengage", "Gemfest", all sorts of things. When my OH came in, he laughed and said "Its Gumtree!!!"
Must have a hunt for second hand freezers, seeing as its only going in the garage and we don't mind its appearance.
Hope you find something suitable, Linda.
LINDY so glad your bracelet turned up. Years ago I lost a necklace given to me by a friend as a 21st pressie. A few months later I walked out of the back door and there it was lying in the middle of the path, where it certainly hadn't been previously.....a mystery.
lovely walk at the canal today, beautiful morning and lasted well into the afternoon despite the forecast. Feel a bit sad as there is a lady we meeet on the dogwalk and yesterday when we met her she told us that she had given Mia (her 10 1/2 year old lab) only a short walk but the dog was obviously tired. As we spoke Mia lay down and was reluctant to move. I don't think she will be around much longer. :(
