Good afternoon June and Gardenbirder and any lurkers! June you will be missed on here and hope you will continue to post! I always enjoy your photos and in no way see them as irrelevant on the contrary. Anything goes on the Gabfest also including news of our dear ospreys who are now mostly on their travels. Post (please?) when you feel like it and only then but will certaily look forward to your contributions :) Hope you will continue to look in and not goodbye for too long :(
My goodness Gardenbirder you are well and truly early :) Happy Christmas to you too!
Hi Willow so Monty has gone. probably the last at Dyfi.
Hello June and any lurkers. I just have seen a tweetsaying they think that our dear Monty had left. Feel quite bereft :( The season is well and truly over. I hope they all travel safely and look forward to March 2016. Not far off. I do worry though about the outcome of the nest next year as intruders were a serious problem.
At least the weathers good for their migration.
Monty being a perfect gentleman always waits till all the family have left, at least I dont recall him ever leaving before. Even poor Blue 24 has now left.
"intruders were a serious problem" Yes at several of the nests. Yet keith (I believe it was) said there is no shortage of nests. And he knows.
June, Yes, no shortage of nests, but I understand that Ospreys prefer to take over a proven nest site rather than set up home at a nest or platform where there is no evidence of there ever having been a successful brood there, no history of a successful nest there. So, let us hope that next year brings some adventurous youngsters who pair up and who choose the unusual thing--starting a nest on a previously unused nest/platform! I wonder if Dai Dot may have done that last year, and he and his partner returned this year and again raised a brood. I hope one of the experts will tell us if his nest had been used by Ospreys before he set up home there or not.
Kind regards, Ann
Interesting question, Ann. Dai Dot is bit of a favorite, too, with Willow & myself. Yes, maybe someone will enlighten us.
I understand he started this 2015 season well, but haven't heard any late news. Hope they all fared well.
Hello June and Gardenbirder. That would be interesting to know if Dai Dots used a previously usednest perhaps our little "darling" was a persistant intruder like Fenrir! LOL I really hope not! But hes definitely one of my favorites. He did raise a family again this year successfully but cant remember where I saw that. I think Keith would know
