Yesterday was yet another filled with rich gifts, thanks to the behaviour of EJ and Odin and the LG team under Jen's leadership - to whom, sincere thanks from all of us.
This is an occasion when I am confident there will be no complaints about me speaking for "all of us".
It's a glary-nested night, a little bit of hinterland showing thru on the left:
IMAGICAT
I saw the mantle too. He is very interested in something towards tree cam!
The sound is intermittent this morning. It sounds very windy, or perhaps it is a change in wind direction, rather than strength.
09.38 Odin has flown

Absolutely, Scylla, I concur one hundred percent. We have had some magical days with the roving camera. Had we not been privy to these scenes I think we would not have stayed with the nest as we all have. There would have been little to report and even less to capture. I think we have also learned quite a lot as the bond between EJ and Odin was maintained. Who would imagine they would chose to sit side by side on a branch for hours on end!
Moffer: Many thanks for alerting us to the RD blog, and that Blue XD has been to the LG nest. Well, well, well. I wonder whether it was the sighting reported late on 27 July, which we sadly did not see - at least I don't think we did. We have seen blue Darvics though.
Perhaps Blue XD's presence is not too surprising, given that Green J has been seen further south down the A9. What might be surprising is that LG have not reported it, or details of the recent blue Darvic bird. Perhaps they did not read the number. I have taken the liberty of putting the info on the latest blog.
Over an hour of ENS
While it's quiet, something that I have been wondering about. In a normal breeding year, at this time with chick full grown, and taking to the wing, Both EJ and Odin would be fishing for them. They would be more concerned for their young's welfare than each other. EJ would growing more distant often looking out of the nest with the daylight hours diminishing, thinking of heading south. She would be feeding herself more or less.
Why is she depending on Odin to feed her these last few weeks? They seem closer than ever, and her demanding fish from him hasn't diminished. If anything it has increased. I wonder why she is not fishing. She did when Odin returned after his five day absence and didn't feed her much. How much longer will they stay in this situation?

Odin lands with a cheep. A slight mantle,
looking around very aware.
Odin lands with a quiet chip
He's flown, straight up!
It is likely all part on bonding and her needing him to prove that he can provide and do that strongly. Remember as much as they mate for life (?)allegedly. Odin disappeared, EJ lost her eggs and went through a very stressful period where they became totally out of sync on the breeding, raising chicks cycle. She likely needs odin to prove himself as a strong male. Remember also that Rutland manton bay had no chicks last year but 33 spent the most of the season building the nest and providing fish for Maya. They came back a very strong pairing this year and thus far have 3 very healthy chicks.
Good point Lmac, well made. Thank you.
