Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey Topics), 5 July 2015

HAPPY NEW WEEK!

Last week's Chat thread is here.

I hope everyone is safe from the bad weather in the U.K.

Margo: Sorry it was so frightful for you.

Clare: Congratulations on your new opportunity at Minsmere. Enjoy!

Brenda: Sorry you lost your match with the men folks. :-) I'm sure your new roses are lovely.

Lindy: I hope you enjoy your time in Wales.

Annette: So glad you all had such a nice day at the beach.

Heather: I hope things are improving for your family in France.

AQ: I've enjoyed looking at your photos. I like the Koroit Library, the Cape Nelson Lighthouse, and the Portland Tram; also, I want to live in the little Kalangadoo Church with the green roof! Very lovely.

You might be interested in seeing this old Catholic church near me: see here and here. Built in 1886, it stands in the rustic, restored 19th century Billie Creek Village in Parke County. Also, here's the historic old Log Church, built in 1871, in what is now Turkey Run State Park/Forest near me.

Hello to everyone. I hope this post makes sense. My neighbors are blasting off huge fireworks. They terrify me. I hope they don't set the woods on fire. Poor, poor wildlife. I hate July 4th.

  • Instead of replying by email to OG, I shall put my instructions on here in case anyone else is struggling.  First I must point out that this is for a Desktop pc, as when I put them on using my Tablet, its totally different, and also the picture comes out as a smaller one which you have to click on to see properly. (My desktop is a Dell and I am on Windows 8 now).

First step is to leave your cursor where you want the picture to come out, in your post. I assume you have already posted in "Rich Formatting"  Then:

    1.  Click on the green 'window' symbol at the top of the box you are typing in.

    2.  This takes you to a pop up box which has various instructions on it.   I ignore all those and just click on the "browse" box.

    3.  You should now have your own photo files to choose a picture from - click on the one you want, to highlight it.

    4.  Click on the box marked "Open" and your picture should be chosen.  It then comes up in another box -

    5.  Click on "insert" in the box in the bottom left hand corner.

    6.  Your pic should now appear on the posting page, so that you can then click "post" as usual, and it should all come out!  If you want to add more photos, just keep doing steps 1 to 7, before finally clicking on "post".

    Hope this helps.

  • Must add, that I do have to make my pictures smaller using a resizing site before they will post on this site:  they seem to be too big or something. EDIT:  They are in "jpeg" format, though, I don't know anything about other formats!

  • Morning all: Utterly frustrating and wasted afternoon yesterday at daughter's doc's office thanks to a small wildfire that shut down the highway and sent everyone on a major and slow diversion. That,  combined with clueless receptionist at doc's office, blew the whole afternoon away.  Rant may follow but too soon for rational report!  In the meantime, Roger and Andy are battling it out.

Clare: Good to read that Helen feels well enough to try school. Hope there's a way to thwart further outbreaks of the condition.

AQ: Hope your stitches remain consistent in spite of varying knitting speeds!  Mine probably wouldn't.

Brenda: We're lucky in that Wimbledon is on here first thing in the morning. The only problem is when the games go on for hours and hours and then it's lunchtime with not much accomplished.

George: belated Happy Birthday; enjoy the fish and chips with son.  Good that SiL is doing well - but that's a long time to wait for your scan results.

Lynette:  Hope all is well with you.

Lindybird: Busy days for you guys. That must've been like pulling teeth, taking your OH shopping.  Tails eh? How often will he be able to wear them? No chance of renting anything like that?  I always reduce my photos fromn 300dpi to 72dpi before I post/e-mail them; they load faster. You can then click on the corner of the image and make it even smaller so it doesn't dominate the post.

OK, Back to the match...  Roger seems to be doing well.

  • Well, Roger his usual brilliant self, but what a match!  Great playing from both guys.

  • Astounding tennis from both of them, Annette! Sorry to see Andy go, but Roger is certainly on top form- should be a good final. Forgot to be clear about my OH's suit - he is hiring it from good old Moss Bros. We went for him to be measured, then they send his requirements to their shop in South Wales, near to where the wedding is to take place. On the big day, one of the participants will go there and collect everyone's suits. (So he tried on a very plain waistcoat, but on the day will wear one the same size in whatever colour has been decided on.)
  • We finished off the day by sitting in the garden - I was finishing a book & my OH was starting one!  Thoroughly enjoyed my book "The Thunderbolt Kid" by Bill Bryson - very entertaining.

Sorry you had such a frustrating day, Annette - use a few swearywordsto yourself!

What a shame - I would have liked Andy to reach the final but at least it sounds like he went out with anything but a whimper.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Helen has had a reasonable day today - phew.  Let's hope it lasts.

  • Loved that book, LINDA, got a few of his.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
