'Allo all. Hope it's a good week for everyone. Ghastly news from Tunisia - those poor people, sitting on the beach enjoying the sunshine....
Heather: There's at least one situation like yours in every family (sometimes two or three!). Makes you wonder where these folks came from I mean, can they really be related to sensible grown-up like us? :-)
Diane: We're on the edges of a tropical storm system heading into the Southwest which could end up in your neighborhood in a few days. What a pain. It must keep on on edge the whole time. I do hope the trees around your house are sound We don't have many needs when it comes to cars, but we just have our trusty Honda Accord and our lovely old 73 Ford Ranger, which guzzles gas big time and is a bear to drive down Santa Barbara's narrow streets (narrow because of parking on both sides - and not narrow at all compared to some roads in England!). The truck is in great shape but sits out most of the time and it's is beginning to rust in a few places. It takes up the entire garage and I'm the one who takes it and the stepladder to the do-it-yourself car wash where I nearly get blown off the ladder by the water pressure. Truck is too big for a drive-through wash. Anyway, it's slowly deteriorating and I'd rather see it go to someone who will really care for it - it's pretty much a classic a this point. I'm thinking sort of long term for a newer SUV with minimal bells and whistles that is versatile and economical. We're looking at hybrids, but there's not a big choice in the smaller SUVs. The Toyota RAV 4 will come in a hybrid version for 2016 - at a cost of about $30K! Typically we buy newer used vehicles but with the recession, folks seem to have hung on to the popular models much longer than usual and the ones advertised on, say, craigslist, have lots of miles on them. Still, there are much, much worse dilemmas to deal with in the world.
Lindybird: Good news from Glaslyn then. Ha! Liked the 1-in-5 joke.
That tropical storm that's east of us has brought clouds, humidity - and a sprinkling of rain! More sprinkling possible in the next two days. Hey! It's wet. we'll take it.
Lindy just beautiful it brought a tear to my eyes.
DIANE and LINDY- Just brilliant -
Lindy: That poem is excellent -- a masterfully crafted verse!
LINDA - that's lovely!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Morning all:
Clare: Good to see you; hope all is well at your house.
Lindybird: Really lovely verse.. :-)) Well done!
Apparently the SpaceX supply ship for the ISS has blown up after take off. Not good news at all, especially for the folks in orbit above us....
Off to Farmers Market, then home to spread mulch around the garden - all a bit late but oh well....
Oh, goodness! <blush> Thanks, Everyone!
Annette: Didn't know that about the ISS supply ship - bother!
I know what you mean about your lovely old truck - it seems unkind to get rid of an old friend who has been such a big part of your life. But it sounds as if it might be kinder for it, and you, if it went to a home where it could be cherished for its ancientness!! (is there such a word?!) Hope it can be found a good home and that you can resolve what to replace it with, hopefully something easier to cope with when out and about.
Back tomorrow with some pics from my garden.
Hello Everyone - A bit late tonight, just popping in for a few moments as I wanted to say what a lovely butterfly story from Diane, it must have been a magical experience, and what a beautiful poem from Lindy to compliment it!
Diane, take care of yourself if those nasty storms come back, I do not like the sound of them at all.
So pleased to hear that there is a second osprey chick at Glaslyn, do hope that they will both thrive, they will be a bit late with fledging and migrating.
Having a nice time here, bit of a fright this morning though. My son looked up from doing some gardening and saw that Amber had jumped out of their bedroom window onto the sloping roof extension and was running about on it. He was worried that she might jump off and down on to the patio but he managed to get upstairs and call her in again, thank goodness!
My youngest grandson had his school leaving 'Prom' on Friday evening, He and his five friends left from here all looking very smart indeed in their dinner suits and bow ties! So different from T shirts and Jeans! They all had a very good time apparently, judging from the photos. Second youngest grandson is off to Bulgaria for a holiday with his friends tonight. My D.i L. has to get up at 3am to take him to Birmingham Airport!
That is all for now, Good night All.
Dau phoned yesterday to say Miss3 was having a friend (+ mother) for a “play date’ today and that I could come later. Woo hoo. Only 6½ hours instead of usual 8. She’s just phoned <insert sweary words> play date cancelled as other child sick. I shall be leaving at usual time after all. BTW it was 2.6 C min last night. OH is complaining it is cold. Just reach for another jumper!
Love Diane’s butterfly story and Linda’s poem.
