WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY, JUNE 14, 2015

Hallo all.  Long day out; nice to see grandson and partner and see photos from the Bahamas.  Had a strawberry waffle for breakfast, but was seriously taken aback by frozen strawberries - this in a town literally surrounded by strawberry fields and farm stands bursting at the seams with luscious ripe berries.

Off to catch up with last few posts from the previous week.

  • BRENDA   Yes thank you. Work much better. There has been a lot of talk recently about the unfairness of zero hours contracts, but we have a uni student with us who wouldn't have it any other way. She usually does weekends but if she is asked to do any other hours she has the option of saying no, and she can say no. She can also take as many hols as she wants (within reason)

  • Good Morning ( just ) Everyone. A sunny but windy morning here. A great morning for drying washing.

Annette, Hooray for your a/c unit in ' your' room. I know you have mentioned before, how hot the room can become. Enjoy.

Dibnlib, I can understand why some people prefer a zero hours contract, but also how unfair it is for others. Pleased that things are much happier for you at work.

Rita, You have gone quiet again. Have your problems been solved ?

OG, Are you just busy in the house / garden ? Hope all is fine.

  • Good afternoon all have been looking into changing my ISP as when I checked on what I was spending on TV and phone and internet found that by changing I could get it all from Virgin Media as a bundle a lot cheaper but to change you have to go through a lot of hoops.

Why is it that when you tell people you are leaving they can always come up with a cheaper option giving you the same and sometimes better deals. I have found that BT is the most difficult and it costs you to get away from them but the deal I am getting from Virgin is still cheaper.

The weather here has been very changeable and I have had to go back to wearing a jumper again as it has been a cold wind. I hope Rita has managed to get her problems sorted out and can go away with a clear mind. Has anyone heard from Margo as I think she should be finished with this lot of chemo.

OG how is EE getting on with his new mower?

Off now to see what I can prepare for my evening meal.

  • Hallooooo! I'm back again..... Just returned from the wilderness, where we had better weather than we expected, but still not exactly summery. Managed to get down to Glaslyn yesterday, where I saw the female tending to her eggs, on their internal live feed. Could also just make out the top of her head by looking through the scope :-)
  • George - sorry you're having problems switching Providers - none of them make it easy to change. We've always been on Virgin cable, and its excellent - we have the TV and house phone, too and the phone is very low on the bills if you're not a heavy user. When there have been any problems with the TV service, they've been very prompt to come out & fix it.
  • Oh George: That "Gee, you're not happy with us? Let's see what we can do about that." is universal.  We have cable TV and I wanted to switch to the "new and improved" cheaper bundle but was told the channels I wanted weren't available unless I upgraded to a more expensive version of "new and improved."   Told them to stuff it (politely of course) and lo and behold, got a phone call at home that evening telling me they'd managed to arrange it the way I preferred.  Ha!   And when I bought my iPhone, I was upgraded to "more of everything" bundle that dropped our bill $40/month, but why not before when we actually were using less.  Grrrrr.

    Lindybird: Welcome back.

Brenda: Just watch: We will have the coolest summer since they started keeping records now that I'll have a/c.  :-)

dibnlib: So good that your work environment/hours are improved - good for you for speaking up!

AQ: Still have to look at that First Nation's page....

Take care all:  FYI, I noticed Vivienne posted some pix of her RV on the Gabfest page - some days back if anyone wants to pop in and take a look.  It's a nice rig, with slide outs.

  • Just to let you know that I have spoken to Margo. She is " fine', but feeling a little 'down'. She will be posting soon.

  • Hi Linda, good to see you back.

George, I hate the thought of changing ' providers' of anything. It all seems such a hassle, but I do know from experience, if you threaten to leave, they do come back with some much improved deals.

Annette, I wondered why Vivienne was no longer posting on here, but she has been posting on some nest threads. She is obviously finding her way around now.

It has been a lovely sunny day here and is now a beautiful evening. OH is out playing an evening County bowls match so I am sitting out in the garden.

  • Enjoy your sitting out, BRENDA, it's very cool here (again!)

I have been wondering about MARGO. She didn't reply to my email a few days ago but I didn't want to hassle her. We normally arrange via email to speak on the phone at a time that is convenient for us both.

    Welcome home LINDY and OG!

Sorry no more from me at present, nothing wrong, just rushing around getting things organised before I leave OH to his own devices. I've been involved with Sheana things - together with her nephew, and going to a grannys afternoon tea tomorrow at the nursery where eldest daughter works. Haircut tomorrow morning, then packing. Flight at 1630 Friday.

    Take care, all
