It is my honour to start the day today.
We have seen less of EJ and Odin on the nest, but we have had wonderful views of them around the reserve. Many thanks to the VC team for allowing access to these views.
As always, thanks to the numerous posters which make this thread complete.
Birdie Num Num's brilliant DU summary 2017
Odin has flown
He poses one last time:
He's flown.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Odin was briefly on the nest alarm tweeting:
IMAGICAT
Odin just landed briefly, alarm chirping.
So is this intruder an English / Welsh bird if darvic is on left?
It's gone awfully quiet. Not even song birds. Has the sound gone?

Ah so it comes down to colour as well. I thought generally scottish darvic were right leg just EJ was wrong way round and English were left. Thanks Moffer
The FH screen should definitely have been able to pick the ring number up as he was showing it off quite the thing and for a god amount of time. The image is normally brilliantly clear.
Moffer just looked at ringing stats left v right is totally higgeldy piggledy, must be whatever leg can be grabbed but I thought I had read there was a science behind it.
Lmac. EJ is of course an older bird and as more birds were fitted with Darvic rings there was a move to try and 'standardise' so that identification became easier between the Scottish and English birds. Blue is a fairly modern colour and that in itself developed to make reading the rings easier as some of the earlier colours were not so clear in the field.
