There is no guarantee of a return in any year. However EJ has returned to Loch Garten after previous failed seasons. I think Odin was her mate in one of those years but haven't checked the stats.

She has flown back to the nest, and Odin follows :)
Birdie Num Num's brilliant DU summary 2017
Both birds back on nest - one of them arrived with a nice chirrup.
Mating. Looks like contact was made to me. EJ potters before leaving.
enthusiastic mating cries from Odin - don't know whether or not successful.
Interesting to have the different nest view - picture not too bad at all. Now the camera's roaming round again - settled on a distance branch with one osprey (although I could have sworn I saw 2 birds, momentarily).
Incidentally apart from the broadband speed issue, I think another factor that results in poor picture quality is the fact that the alternative camera currently in use, which is proving so useful for giving the different views, obviously has an extra long zoom on it, is not in a fixed position, and is completely manually controlled, including the focus. Very, very difficult to get all those requirements spot on - a professional wild life cameraman could well struggle.
this is the best one can get at present - you've got a point Oldshoremore, maybe that is the answer.

Any volunteers for an ID? I would say not EJ - chest too white - Odin?
And another point about the camera - this one, we know, is high up on a pole, not mounted on a heavyweight tripod, so there is going to be blur because of wind movement, especially at full zoom, before anything else is factored in.
