There's an abandoned egg, and a giant slug on the Loch Garten nest tonight...
Well, OK, it's not a giant slug, but in fact a lovely brown trout that Odin brought for EJ yesterday evening about 9pm, but she never came to claim it.
It's clear now to all our relief that EJ has finally given up on incubating the unviable egg, whilst Odin seems to have rediscovered a desire to deliver decent sized fish to the nest, but a bit late...
Here is one of Moffer's lovely captures of Odin the Magnificent delivering the 'slug'
And because it was only posted at the very end of yesterday's DU, but you wouldn't want to miss it, here is Birdie Num Num's video of Odin's earlier appearance on the nest around 7pm, in lovely evening sunlight
Glad tidings of brand new osplets at both Loch of the Lowes and Manton Bay are tinged with sadness that we won't be seeing any Loch Garten bobbleheads this season. But let's remember that both of these nests were in a similar no-chick predicament last year - and how their fortunes have now turned again.
So hopefully things will now start to settle back into a regular pattern, and EJ and Odin will continue to work as the magnificent pair they have been, to defend this nest and bond with each other for next season.
On with another day...

I heard the significant chirps from the kitchen - lovely.
But as for "poor fella" because EJ's nagging him - hell, no! Last night he was here tugging at our heart strings with a whole fish, now he won't bring even a tail!
