Daily Update Wednesday 6th May 2015.

Much Quieter at Loch Garten .

Yesterday was much quieter at Loch Garten with just a little showing of the intruder which Odin seems to have dealt with not too much fuss.
Yesterday was sadly a very wet day for EJ and she did look so uncomfortable.
Odin was last seen on the nest at 07:54. And has not been seen at the nest for sixteen hours so where is he?

The start of a new day EJ is sitting on the eggs and it looks like it has stopped raining.
And all is very quiet on the nest and still no sign of Odin.

  • Morning all. Thankyou all for the uopdates videos and photos. Very concerned to see the persistent intruders harrassing EJ and Odin. Is this exceptional this year, I dont recall such agressive persistenc before or is it we are watching more? Also the violent attempt at Rutland at nest site B. I know there have been intruders  but seem to be more agressive this year. Hope Im wrong! :(

I am very frustrated because I am convinced that there were two males involved in that last "attack" and none of you have responded *wail* ... *gnash teef*.

Just catching up SCYLLA and would agree on two males there. No Odin as yet IMO...

  • I think that Orange Chest is alarm calling at the other male. If it were Odin, he would have flown to the nest to defend it.

    Oh dear, this is terrible.

Can't wait to hear something from HQ. Where is our Odin?

So my question has to be, who was this at 07:29?

    EJ wasn't remotely mantling.

I posted at the time Clare. When this boy looked around, it didn't have Odin's head. NOT Odin, but far away enough from EJ to not be a threat to her eggs until he flew, and then she screamed at him.

[/quote]Whenever a bird has landed there who has been an intruder she's invariably chased them off.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

I have watched your video SCYLLA, several times. Does anyonw  else hear a definite 'chip' a few times somewhere in the air around the nest? COULD it be we are all (hopefully) confused and in fact  Odin IS  around?

Otherwise, I have nothing to say

Did anyone else hear 'chip' on SCYLLA's video?

  • Here is the 07:29 "intruder" again, only shortened slightly.  I could believe it was Odin, EJ's reaction is confusing (to me), and I think she may well be confused too!

  • It's really interesting to watch that again, EJ doesn't react when he lands but then does about 20 seconds into the video when it seems another intruder flies over the nest.

Then at 2:10 when he flaps she just ducks but again doesn't react.

He then leaves of his own accord, she does not force him off the nest, and she just ducks again when he flies over her...

That is not Orange Chest in my opinion anyway. Her reaction to him has been pretty consistent.

  • I have been following all the drama this morning, but I didn't want to interrupt. I do agree that there were two attacking the nest. Worried about the nest and Odin now.

We know he goes fishing early, so possibly was not around.

  • No, indeed the second Osprey in the video  is NOT Odin.

  • I have to tear myself away from all of this and go to work!

I really hope Odin is back soon, and preferably having chased off one, if not both, intruders, and gone fishing ...

Fingers crossed (and for the eggs to still be intact!)
