Normality On The Nest - Or Is It ?

Yesterday was a day of normality - or was it? Certainly there seems to be a lack of fish for EJ. A bit more of Odin wanting to mate, but why? EJ has already laid three eggs so is Odin trying to have four this season? As for me I think three is enough otherwise the nest gets too overcrowded and there is always a chance of a vulnerable chick not getting enough fish at feeding time or being knocked out of the nest and not surviving.

So what else happened yesterday? A bit of intrusion by an intruder and finally Odin flies in with a fish for EJ at 17:57 - a well needed fish. EJ took it from Odin and flew off with it.

So what now? We all wait for the 23/24/25 of May when we should have our first bobblehead at LG for this season. Personally I will hedge my bets for the 24/05/2015 late afternoon or early evening.

Well the new day starts with EJ on the nest and all is quiet.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

Odin's injury.

Naturally one had to investigate - it seems that it occurred between 4 o'clock and 6 o'clock yesterday afternoon. During that time there was the intruder episode and Odin went fishing:

We didn't pick it up at the time because it didn't show until after EJ had left with her fish.

Great that you had the footage to review. So... besides fighting the intruder, it might also be possible yet improbably that he hurt it while fishing...

Yes, beautiful captures all round thank you and great to have videos. My hurting hero .... but he's doing ok and isn't it great to have so much regular communication from busy Staff when things (like this) happen.

Hi all :)

Thanks for all the updates, pics etc. Nice to see it didn't snow for too long earlier, and here's hoping that's the last of it for this season. Pity about Odin picking up a battle scar, although in pictures I've seen of him he does have a look that says: "You should see the state of the other guy" ;)
