DAILY UPDATE ~ Loch Garten nest ~ Monday, 20 April 2015

.

The idyllic start to the season continues, with the only blot being intruders (which come with the territory).  Today an Odin-lookalike appeared to land on the nest but I'm not sure that it wasn't Odin putting himself between the intruder and the nest before chasing it off.

This is what we could have had tonight:

This is what we have - at least it's not as bad as last night.

I suppose the people who adjust the "lights" can't see the outcomes because they're locked out of the VC ???  If only we knew.

Then at 0120hr they briefly changed the light again:

EJ checked the egg - all present and correct:

Someone out there?  I didn't hear anything:

Poop and flap:

Another sweep of the lights (I know they're not lights as such, but what are we to call them?):

They're doing it about every hour:

I sent off some samples to Carnyx the night before last and the cam was refocused the following morning.  May be nothing to do with it, of course.

Well , a massive 'thank you' from me SCYLLA

  • Shall think of you THursday MOFFER - lots of luck to you. And alghoughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh  (how DO I get rid of that kind of anomaly)I'm not sure why, all the best for you and LIMPY today CLARE

  • Limpy had a great day at Minsmere yesterday, Mike, though he overdid it considerably.  I have my ninth job interview this afternoon so fingers crossed!

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Good morning all - looks like we have the makings of another beautiful day at LG for our fascinating feathered friends :-).  Glorious day here too - please God, that it turns out to be a bit warmer than yesterday brrrr!

Once again, thanks to everybody involved in our 'nightwatch' - especially Scylla for the her great pics/vid clips AND for speaking to Carnyx on our behalf :-D.

Looking forward to another quiet day today - but I've got a spare bedroom that desperately needs 'sorting out', so will probably pop in/out at various points throughout the day.  Like the rest of you, I'm not anticipating another egg until this evening at the very earliest - possibly overnight/tomorrow - so hopefully I won't miss any action.

Keep well everybody; Clare/Limpy - hope all goes well for 'whatever' I may not have picked up on.

    Ollie xx

  • All the luck in the world CLARE.  My thoughts  go with you

  • Yes, EJ, your wings are most impressive:

  • Hello, something's about:

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • She has flown.

  • 09.23  I think we have had an INTRUDER problem.  Odin arrived, EJ stood up and both appeared to be mantling.  No sound.

09.25 EJ has flown off, so the intruder must have just floated past by.  Odin has taken over incubation.

Sorry to hear you are suffering with your back MOFFER.  I sympathise completely, having suffered on and off for years.  Good luck to you CLARE for this pm.

  • Odin is looking as proud as ever as he incubates:
