Daily Update (LG Nest), Tuesday, April 20,2010

Evening all: Welcome back, Alicat!  As usual, all quiet on the LG nest; breezy at LOTL.  FYI, I may not watch very late tonight as we have someone coming early in the morning to install French doors between the kitchen and "my" room and it's been a busy day.

  • Morning all.

I see there are still 2 eggs.

  • The minute EJ leaves for some exercise  Odin is right there to incubate the eggs .  He is keeping a close eye on EJ and the eggs .

  • Coming on to rain now at the nest.  There has beena change of duties, with EJ gone and Odin on the eggs.  Before you ask - there are still only 2!

They have done little or no mating since the  second egg was laid . . Maybe two  is the number of eggs this  year.  The cold rainy/ snowy  weather may have made  EJ decide two was  enough to keep warm.

  • Or it may have been Odin who decided two was enough this time.  He must still have nightmares about his ordeal last year.  I think they both want to raise all their chicks without drama.

  • Ya the poor guy fished until he was  exhausted to keep 5 hungry mouth fed including himself  . 3 chicks looks great until  you realized soon there are 5 full size  birds to feed.  Some  days He was still hauling in fish  at  10 p.m. at  night . Near the  end he  didn't  even  wait for EJ to  grab the fish . He just dumped it on the nest and  took off for the  lake again . Remember the live ones jumping  around the nest LOL

Two healthy chicks would be fine

'Amen'' to that Wattle - no fishing line and no struggle with feeding three that sent EJ fishing before the girls had fledged.   Yeah Barbara Jean yeah - we all agree.

Hi everyone -  see the wind is still up . Happy viewing fans   :)

  • Good morning and a very cold and windy one here as well.  I don't know what the birds a re making of this weather.  I've noticed the hedgrows are not in their greenery yet quite bare in some places, so where do the birds all build their nests.   Everything seems peaceful at LG.  but I can't help feeling sorry for EJ.

Loved reading about the head bobber aghain!  that tickles me!!

Everything in life is speaking in spite of its apparent silence.

  • Hello.  Thanks to All for night reports:  I'm sort of glad there are no more eggs yet, (as mentioned above, its quite a daunting prospect for the fishing)  although there is still time and they may surprise us.
