WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey topics) SUNDAY, APRIL 4, 2015

Hallo all!  Hope you all have a peaceful and pleasant Easter.

  • Much better weather today.  OH has scarified second section of front lawn, and I think is about to mow it.  I have been indoors so far, final ironing and things of that kind - also doing some of his regular jobs to enable him to be outside.

Couldn't sleep last night.  J has been feeling unwell and didn't eat his portion of Pavlova yesterday, so I gave it to OH; I think it was the double dose of sugars which made him snore most of the night!  We hardly ever have dessert so none of us are used to it.

Osprey news still seems mixed; awaiting firm developments at various nests.  Odin apparently still not satisfied with trying to obliterate the Pine Marten hole!

Sorry about Amy's pump adjustment, HEATHER; I guess she is eating differently while staying with her Dad.  Is Callum away with her, or did she go on her own?  I hope the Rhododendron doesn't cause too much trouble for the man or expense for you!

I am sure you will miss Penny over the next few days, BRENDA.  Have they decided where she will go when they leave for Singapore?

Well, now time to make a couple of phonecalls.  Packing tomorrow, but I shall look in some time before we go on Thursday.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Just in case you haven't noticed. MONTY IS BACK at Dyfi.  © DOP

  • OG, The vet still hasn't said whether Penny can have her injections / vaccinations. She seemed so well when she was with us and really is so well behaved. Our son and his wife are hoping that they will be told that she will be able to travel with them to Singapore.

Sorry J is not feeling too good. Your OH seems to be doing a great job in your garden. You are all going to need this holiday.

  • LINDA will be travelling home tomorrow. Enjoying the sunshine today.

  • Thanks, BRENDA.  I had seen about Monty - and am hoping for Glesni to return soon and have a peaceful season on that nest!  I do hope Penny will be able to have her injections and travel abroad.  Thanks for update on Linda's holiday.

  • Yes OG Callum is there also and for that I am grateful because however much Amy resents big brother interference he keeps a weather eye on things regarding the diabetes if Mum isn't there. He doesn't, though, understand the techie things because he hasn't become that involved. If he is not too preoccupied with the internet he does check that she has done her regular finger pricks etc. She is not too bad at that herself, through the day. It's a difficult age, 13, lots of hormones rushing about which all affect her blood sugars. And as you say, different foods. At home she has to weigh all carbs, her Dad has been told today to get a set of scales. We thought he had them:-((( He had been told:-((

    Politically incorrect statement follows:-

Said SiL has fought the Taliban very bravely, mentioned in press regarding this. Needs to learn about things closer to home and heart.

  • Morning all: Awaiting rainstorm here; daughter is on her way here (by train) for a massage courtesy of her daughter at a place near us. I'll drive her and Peanut (guinea pig) home after lunch.

Lynette: One thing our garden centers here don't sell is food - could be dangerous. :-)

Rita: Smiling here at the thought of you tucking up the tortoises in the fridge.

Heather: Hope Amy is doing well in spite of the pump and newbie helper, although reading on, it sounds like more of a hassle than expected.  Re SiL, probably path of least resistance is to send some scales next time - he probably doesn't even know where to go buy them!  Good luck with the rhododendron. We put some New Zealand flax in the rear garden when we redid everything and they are gradually taking over. I'm going to take one out and move another to a currently barren spot. However, I've read the roots are almost impossible to dig up.  Hmmmm.....  Maybe a stick of dynamite would do the job?

OG: Pavlova going begging? Send it here next time.  Where are you off to?

Just found out that daughter has made massage appointment at wrong salon about 4 miles away instead of the one conveniently located round the corner and close to the garden centers I was going to visit while she was being "done."  She does seem to have a hard time organizing herself....

Anyway, off to fill bird feeder and put it under the eaves before the rain starts.

    Take care all.

  • Hi folks and thanks for your news.

OG - sorry to learn about J but hope he is feeling a lot better.

Annette - Yes, we do tend to have food outlets at our garden centres but I usually give them a miss.   The food hall at the one we went to yesterday has an amazing display of locally sourced foods and also from around the country - its heaven to look at but murder if you are trying not to spend too much.

Brenda - Just saw that Monty is home after catching up on Rutland's blog.   Lovely capture of him.

HeatherB - hope you managed to get the rhodedendron sorted.

Been another lovely warm sunny day here. Managed my usual swim and then in the afternoon chaired our Womens' meeting as our usual Chairlady was away on holiday. All went well and I didn't make too many mistakes, lol.  Hope to start the decorating tomorrow - thank goodness its only a small room.

  • ANNETTE - where was Daughter's dog in all today's carry-on?  I hope you correctly located her for the drive home with Peanut!

LYNETTE - thanks for thinking of J - he ate a small dinner tonight - chicken pie with mushrooms and tarragon, so I think he is okay now.  Well done with the swim and chairing the meeting - and good luck with the decorating.

Grass all finished now, and one more session should see the shed painting completed.  I have seen neighbour about watering greenhouse seedlings while we are away, so feel more organised now.  While at his house, I heard that another neighbour had a near miss on Sunday.  He was walking his dogs at the shore and was totally disorientated by the thick mist so walked towards the incoming tide instead of away from it.  When rescuers reached him, he was almost up to the neck in the water, not knowing where the shore was, and his three dogs were swimming around him!  Shows how treacherous the tides can be here - this is a local man who knows the shore and the tides really well!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • OG, How frightening for that poor man. Thank God, he was found and rescued.

Pleased that J is feeling better. Hope he will feel 100% tomorrow, after a good night's sleep.
