Good grief! 12 pages yesterday. And most of them about the birds and the bees - or the birds. I'm copying Wattle's post (the last one on yesterday's Update thread) which may throw some light on the topic. (Glad someone asked; I wasn't sure myself but you feel such a twit.....)
From Wattle: Now I've finished chuckling at all the posts, I'll answer the delicate question posed. Generally, birds have just one multi-purpose opening, male and female, both under the tail. The female holds her tail to one side, and the male curls his body forward until there is, well, a 'bum kiss'! It can be lightning fast and still be very effective. ;-) I say 'generally', because male ducks, swans etc can be more elaborately endowed, but females are always the same (I think).
Thank you Wattle, I think..... :-)
Oh, and the LG nest is empty; Marge is at LOTL
EJ lands on nest and 1 min. later Odin zooms in without a fish. EJ is giving him "the evils" looking down at his feet as if to say "Well where is it" The invisible fish!!!
Now he has flown off.
Everything in life is speaking in spite of its apparent silence.
Hi Brenda and thank you.
EJ tidying up the nest after Odin tidied it up
I can hear Lindybirds Woodpecker drumming in the background! She has now flown off scattering all her tidiness with her
EJ has been on the nest for a wee while but suddenly there is a wind getting up. It does look overcast as well.
For those who will be playing catch-up later today. EJ has left the nest and except for a brief visit, there has been no sight of either birds for a while.
VERY thoughtful of you Brenda. Thank you. I shall be out shortly and will be one of those doing the catching up.
I've had to attend to emergency things currently and have only managed to log on to computer again now so I'm catching up with the last two hours so to speak.
And EJ back on nest at 11.38 and Odin flew in briefly at 11.41 OH- well, he flew in for .... and has gone
RE Carol's remard about the volcanic ash from Iceland (main blog) it does look rather gloomy at LG currently. Hope this isn't the ash masking the sunshine. If it's preventing air flights from locations further north than Manchester it does make one wonder !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Odin flew in said hello then immediately took off for a landing on top of EJ lol What a way to make love "Coming in to land"" lol So they mated and he has gone again. EJ still in residence!!
Hi Cirrus,
Both birds returned, then Odin does his usual circuit and returns again to mate, and then leaves.
Odin flies back in and they aren't speaking to each other .. No fish Sir!!! Odin always looks a tad uncomfortable when they are together. He has now turned his back on her and that's all the excitement for now. Wait-- Odin has flown off and left EJ at home!
They both return for another mating. Ej alone on nest. It has been so quiet, I was hoping he had gone fishing.
Odin returns, EJ softly tweets, then looks at his feet, no fish ! Odin moves a branch and leaves.
