Daily Update (LG nest), Wednesday April 14, 2010

Morning all:  LG nest is empty tonight; low light is on.  Marge is on the LOTL nest (presumably on egg).

Hey Wattle, saw your last post of yesterday and I've also had problems getting on the site today, but all okay now.  Interesting about the additional problem you had in receiving only about half the notifications of posts compared to the actual number that appeared on the site!  Hmm. Wonder what all that was about.

Tiger: Are you taking bets on the first egg arriving today?  As you said, Watch This Space"

  • EJ has returned and is quiet.

  •  Brenda  does your avatar still visit.

All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy.

  • Yes Soosin, but not every day at the moment. I think he may be busy with his lady friend.

  • EJ still on nest, Night vision on. We;re off out for a walk,  Thank you all for comments..

  • EJ still calling in almost total darkness.  If it's fish she wants, she'll be lucky!  Interesting chat earlier about the avian anatomy.  Must check Roy's book.

  • Hi everyone.

Cirrus:  Thanks for the Raven confirmation.  Have to say I can't quite stop laughing.  Not exactly sure about the design of osprey reproductive set up myself.  Thankfully the ospreys know what they're doing. :-)

tish:  I think if I lose internet connection when the eggs are laying, I might end up wearing a straight jacket when I make the next post.  LOL.  Psoriasis sounds horribly painful.  Hope if disapears soon.

    Alan:
Thanks for the shot of EJ.  She really is a stunning osprey.

Soosin:  Love the "in the name of the wee man" expression.  Not heard it for ages.  I know exactly what you mean about reading through the obs.  If I miss a couple days, I'm snookered.  It's amazing how mad we seem to get during the Osprey Season.  Earlier today I found myself shouting at Odin to turn around and move in shot, so I could get a decent picture.  LOL

DjoanS:  Brilliant shot of Odin and EJ.  That guy's an expert in sticks, as well as fish :-)

Everyone:  Thanks for all the brilliant posts and obs.

    Paul.

Warning!  This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar.  Approach with extreme edginess.

Now I've finished chuckling at all the posts, I'll answer the delicate question posed.  Generally, birds have just one multi-purpose opening, male and female, both under the tail.  The female holds her tail to one side, and the male curls his body forward  until there is, well, a 'bum kiss'!  It can be lightning fast and still be very effective.  ;-)  I say 'generally', because male ducks, swans etc can be more elaborately endowed, but females are always the same (I think).

    Smiles, Jan.
