Hallo all:

Soosin posted the following about her Saturday and various bird sightings, etc.,  at the very end of the last Daily Update, so I'm copying it here otherwise no-one will see them (she saw mating kingfishers!). And Alan posted some new links, which are also here (Hope that was okay Soosin and Alan).

From Soosin: Just in from a day in Galloway visiting rellies.  What weather, fantastic,  Saw mating kingfishers at Cumstoun Bridge, Kirkcudbright. and an Osprey on tje nest at Threave Castle our first house martins of the year and possible first swallow but in car and couldn't be sure.  Spring definitely here. whooopeee  Great to catch up with all your obs and pics from throughout day. So, they still seem to be sharing, aahh, how nice. Empty nest looking well padded with moss with  the night vision on it.  Someone mentioned a new blog.  off to read that now. Be out all day again tomorrow. on the hill hoping for Ring Ousel

From Alan: Nesting calendars for Owls and Hawks, International falcons and US falcons have been updated. http://peregrinefalcon-bcaw.net/viewforum.php?f=6

New Forest Goshawks have at least 2 eggs now. http://www.newforestgateway.org/Wildcam/LiveCameras/tabid/117/Default.aspx

Hope they can cheer you both up...

so do i, i have left you a message on your page

  • OG wonder if you can help. We have recently bought a Canon camera. We can upload the pictures to the laptop but can't post them from  the Canon folder, although we can post previously uploaded pictures from another camera. OH has not yet uploaded the Canon software, wonder if this is the cause? Can you or anyone else please help us

  • DIANE IN INDIANA  logged onto the www. pogo.com but couldn't find Scrabble. Can you talk me through further with an idiots guide please.

  • Hi dibnlib:   I went on www.pogo.com and found Scrabble amongst the list of games - did you type it in without the gap in the address you have, above?

  • OG tried Lisi,s last saturday but it was closed with no times or reasons for closure on any sign. Wonder if they have packed up for good. If I find out anything I will let you know.

  • re your previous question, dibnlib,  I think you quite often have to download/upload  the software before all the things work for a new camera.

  • Just noticed that our car is covered in a light coating of dust, some of which is glistening in the sunlight. It is also on the window sills. We presume it must be the volcanic ash. There is no wind here today.

  • MARGOBIRD  we certainly have volcano dust here. Our car and others are lightly covered. I thought originally it was dust from the driveway and paving work we have done, but know now that is not the case OH wa saying that that those on the south coast occassionally get fall out dust from the Sahara

  • Evening Brenda H I suspect that it is volcanic ash.  Does it have any smell to it?

    Margobird

  • Morning/afternoon, etc all. Thanks for pix and posts - seems busy on here today.

Lindybird: Had to laugh at "Interviews about results of interviews." Soon it will be "speculation about next debate and possible fallout if so-and-so says something or other about this or that".....   So your temporary neighbor is "flipping" the house (upgrading to profit on resale)?  He is optimistic about housing market then? We have more and more properties going on the market now, so something's happening (not that anyone can get a loan!)

jsb:Margobird: Bet relatives are relieved they booked Eurostar, etc., some time back. We're hearing all about the holdups here. And as others have noted, people like the silence - as someone said, "All you can hear is the birds."  Wonderful!  Djoan: Being stranded in a luxury hotel sounds lovely. Sigh.

Tiger: That's an amazing photo fo EJ with the egg. Thank you!  OK, so there was much discussion this week about how ospreys "do it."  Now I want to know how she picked up the egg - does she just stick her beak in and carry it like that then shake it off?  I can't believe she fits it in her mouth.

Alan: Wonder if that fab sunrise was a result of the volcano dust? I know you can get some wonderful sunsets (we had Simon WInchester on telly last night talking about the multiple fallouts - travel, health, art, etc) from volcanos.

OG: Marvellous shot from LG - very crisp - (what was that bird?)

We have a new "neighbor." A mockingbird has decided that the power line over our patio is the perfect place to conduct his search for a mate. He's been up there for two days now, with occasional trips to another garden up the block (we can still hear him up there), cheeping, twittering, chirping, screeching, yodeling (well almost) - you name it - with occasional flutterings and flappings. He's very loud and very clear. Male mockingbirds can sing all night - and they do!  So glad our bedroom is at the other end of the house!

It's Earth Day here today and our friend has built an electric car in his garage which he's going to show off at the local park where the "party" is being held. I'm off to the gym, then the park to say Hi to him and admire all the other booths and exhibits. Back later.
