Hallo all:
Soosin posted the following about her Saturday and various bird sightings, etc., at the very end of the last Daily Update, so I'm copying it here otherwise no-one will see them (she saw mating kingfishers!). And Alan posted some new links, which are also here (Hope that was okay Soosin and Alan).
From Soosin: Just in from a day in Galloway visiting rellies. What weather, fantastic, Saw mating kingfishers at Cumstoun Bridge, Kirkcudbright. and an Osprey on tje nest at Threave Castle our first house martins of the year and possible first swallow but in car and couldn't be sure. Spring definitely here. whooopeee Great to catch up with all your obs and pics from throughout day. So, they still seem to be sharing, aahh, how nice. Empty nest looking well padded with moss with the night vision on it. Someone mentioned a new blog. off to read that now. Be out all day again tomorrow. on the hill hoping for Ring Ousel
From Alan: Nesting calendars for Owls and Hawks, International falcons and US falcons have been updated. http://peregrinefalcon-bcaw.net/viewforum.php?f=6
New Forest Goshawks have at least 2 eggs now. http://www.newforestgateway.org/Wildcam/LiveCameras/tabid/117/Default.aspx
jsb: Thanks for the link to to Capercaille call - was it you who said it wasn't one you could whistle to? Right!
AQ: Glad you didn't have any damage from the quake. Even the small ones are a bit disconcerting, though, aren't they? TerryM: Big Rig Steve travels really fast. In fact, his truck broke down, and he had several days of frustrating layoff in Utah on his way to the northwest. You mentioned the sunset; I read that the sunsets in northern Europe will be very colorful and beautiful now because of the volcanic dust in the atmosphere.
OG: Don't worry. I think everyone is busy right now, me included, so I don't think anyone is going to judge you if you don't post any long comments. Loved the photo of the blue tit! DibnLib: I love to play Scrabble, but I prefer the old rules. I play Scrabble online, against bots (at www.pogo.com). Lindybird/Alan: I'm glad that your canines have both recovered. Barbara Jean: I hope you're feeling better.
Annette: If humans can put a man on the moon, why oh why can't we make houses clean themselves? I mean, really, couldn't we develop a machine that we could flip on and suck up all the dust in a house instantly? That picture of Lightening is wonderful! By the way, the new tile on your floor is stunning.
Diane: Thanks for reminding me to thank OG for the lovely photo of the blue tit. So pretty. And yes, I read about "smart" houses, but any house that can't clean itself doesn't sound too smart to me! Re the floor; that was the hangup during the remodel - but turned out okay.
Off to bed. Have a nice Saturday all.
Oops too late to catch you Annette. Adelaide is apparently the most likely capital in Aussieland to have an earthquake. The Mount Lofty Ranges are being squeezed together 1/10 th of a mm per year. The experts say we have one earthquake per year in Adelaide. Not that I've noticed.
Morning All. Bright morning here, and very quiet in the skies once again as the planes are still grounded for most of the forseeable future. Must say, didn't think we noticed them usually, but it is certainly very quiet here now.
AQ: Earthquake ! Whatever next ! Thought you lived in a place away from those sorts of things! Mind you, everyone gets them sometimes, we had a couple in the last few years but they were only tremors really.
We are beginning to find alternatives to putting on the BBC News at regular intervals throughout the day, as it is just soooo b o o o o r ing listening to all the journalists trying to be excited about the Election, when we really don't need so much coverage: interviews about the results of interviews, charts and polls. Just get on with it, please!
Someone at last has the keys to the house which was sold next door: Husband met the new owner, he is a developer who is going to 'do the place up' as it has an old fashioned kitchen and bathroom etc., so they are going to install new plumbing and redecorate over the next few weeks, then put it back on the market. We shall have to wait some more to see who our new real neighbours are.
Have a good weekend, All.
ps. Thanks to All for pics and links, great stuff as usual.
I think you all know, since it happened yesterday at 15.30 but there is a new blog called The First Egg is here ....
It took Short Stuff to sort me out !!

Annette -loved the pic of the cat!

Another day of pleasing myself :)) my partner is still stranded in Canada! He was due back on Thursday, but he's not complaining .... he's been put in a posh hotel and been given very generous meal vouchers ... says he could get used to this life of luxury!
Take care all

Have to say DJoan I for one could certainly get used to NO aircraft. Let's get back to rail and ships :)
AQ words fail me too ..... but I do trust there was no on hurt . The Planet grumbles and groans. I have friends and family in McClaren Vale - will have to phone them.
Good morning DjoanS sounds as though OH not too upset at living in luxury in Canada. Goodness knows when things will get back to normal. We have some friends who have been out in Spain and were supposed to come back Thursday. They finally got home early this morning after drivig down to France and being lucky enough to get a crossing by boat. They have 2 youeng children who thought it was all a bit of a novelty to begin with but when tiredness set in they really got quite upset.
My OH now on his way to Belguim by Eurostar fortunately booked a long time ago. Left home at 6.15 so I have done all usual housework tasks, have a line full of washing out . Bright and sunny but we had a bit of frost this morning. I now have three days of pleasing myself and will be able to keep up with all the goings on at LG. Say EJ and Odin change over earlier and my word it is so windy there. Migh get in the garden but not promising, it needs to warm up a bit for that.
