Hallo all:
Soosin posted the following about her Saturday and various bird sightings, etc., at the very end of the last Daily Update, so I'm copying it here otherwise no-one will see them (she saw mating kingfishers!). And Alan posted some new links, which are also here (Hope that was okay Soosin and Alan).
From Soosin: Just in from a day in Galloway visiting rellies. What weather, fantastic, Saw mating kingfishers at Cumstoun Bridge, Kirkcudbright. and an Osprey on tje nest at Threave Castle our first house martins of the year and possible first swallow but in car and couldn't be sure. Spring definitely here. whooopeee Great to catch up with all your obs and pics from throughout day. So, they still seem to be sharing, aahh, how nice. Empty nest looking well padded with moss with the night vision on it. Someone mentioned a new blog. off to read that now. Be out all day again tomorrow. on the hill hoping for Ring Ousel
From Alan: Nesting calendars for Owls and Hawks, International falcons and US falcons have been updated. http://peregrinefalcon-bcaw.net/viewforum.php?f=6
New Forest Goshawks have at least 2 eggs now. http://www.newforestgateway.org/Wildcam/LiveCameras/tabid/117/Default.aspx
jsb: Thanks for the link to to Capercaille call - was it you who said it wasn't one you could whistle to? Right!
Aquilareen Thanks for the pic. - that looks very like what we saw on TV. Isn't modern technology wonderful?
Aquilareen My brain isn't properly in gear yet - I should have said I think the area where you grew up was really beautiful. Lovely rolling country with extensive views, as the estate agents say. You must have missed it terribly when you were at boarding school. My sisters and I didn't have to board but our cousin was sent to boarding school at age 11. She was very close to us as she only had brothers, so we missed her a lot. Thanks for the Google suggestion. This chat site is great for expanding one's horizons - literally!

dibnlib What are these little beauties?
Are they baby red squirrels? They are gorgeous! :)

Yes, baby red squirrels!! I posted a link yesterday to a BBC site where there were some pics of them.
In answer to the avian anatomy questions, I did post a rather revealing photo yesterday (? think it was?) of the mating, where you can see the questionable bits!
Hope that helps! (no privacy for these poor creatures, as if they don't have enough to put up with!)
Hooray! Odin arrives with a fish tail, not huge, but EJ tries to creep around him to see, its very comical, then he sort of shows it to her, and she grabs it from his claws. Off she goes to eat it - he is still on the nest, just mooching around.
EDIT; Whoops, wrong thread. I was so pleased to hear Odin arrive, I put up the pic of the nest quickly & then posted a report for those who missed it.
Many thanks to Cirrus for her helpful message on my page re copying live streams.

Morning Lindybird and that was well caught. Had to go out first thing so have only just logged in to see mating again. Good job they don't know how ineterested we are in their reproductive organs. Such a laugh last night, I was still giggling away when i went to bed.

Saw EJ in camera tree, joined by Odin right at top. Then she flew to the nest and was nagging him as only EJ can - silly thing was, she stood with her back to him! Haven't downloaded from camera yet - hope to be able to use computer for extra zoom and crop to produce something reasonable. I hope everyone is well and all the uk folk are enjoying this weather. I shan't read all I have missed, so please will someone tell me if there is any significant news I should know?

good morning original goldfinch and welcome back. Lucky you to have seen both EJ and Odin. As you say she is still nagging awy at him but she has been sharing fish with him. You will have gathered I expect we became quite obsessed with the mating and where their private parts are. Wattle 15 has explained it very well now. As I am typing Odin has just returned for another mating with EJ, have only been logged in a short time and that is the second time. He sure has some stamina.
